Compass Knight 50 > setting up the Sports head,,,

I want to talk about setting up the Sport's Bell Mixers,,

these Mixers are supposed to be on about a 3 degree negative angle,, but every time I have tried to setup the Mixers I ether get to much negative or not enough negative,,

I have got it very close to being even but it always seams to be off just a bit, so I have to lower one side of the curve a bit,,

just an example here,,

10 degrees Positive Pitch at 100% on the curve,,

10 degrees Negative Pitch at 95% on the curve,,

a setup like this makes the Negative noticeably more sensitive on the throttle stick,,

any tips ???

thanks guys !!
Jim

nice easy one :-)

once you have the mixers in the right place change the length of the short links from the mixers to the blade grips to give you zero pitch at mid stick.

Jim,

What has worked for me: I set the position of the mixers when the collective travel is at 0 degrees pitch (50% channel throw) at 90 degree angle to the links from the swash to the mixers. Then I adjust the short links from the mixers to the pitch arm to get 0 degrees pitch at the blade. It usually comes out real close to having mirror image either side of 0.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...

I actually shaved the length of the links between the Bell/Hiller mixing arm and the blade grip ball so that at half collective, the washout arms are level and the mixing arms are level.

I did this on the Knight Pro and the Knight 3D to make everything fully symmetrical.

There are still plenty of threads into the ball links.

RAK, it has been my experience if you set the mixers level at 0 pitch, you get the asymetrical collective like Jim is speaking off. And, that is because the rods from the swash to the mixers are at an angle when the mixers are in the middle of their travel.

Steve,

Interesting, but that has not been my experience. I have been able to get exact mirror-image throw on both of my machines.

hey Steve,,

what I have found (and tell me if you found this too) is if I turn 1 of end the upper cyclic link to the grips "1/2 turn" then to equalize the lower links I have to adjust the lower links more than 1/2 turn,, this is because of the angle the Mixers are on,,,

understand what I am saying here ?? have you found this too ??

Jim, I think I understand, but it's not because of the angle, it's because of the ratio of the mixers. Meaning, the link to the pitch arms is farther in on the mixer, so to equal 1/2 turn distance on the link to the pitch arm, you have make more than 1/2 turn on the link to the swash...probably one turn.

Hey Jim, does the sport mixing arms have three holes in them like the 3D does?
