e-E-Flite Blade CP mCX CX 400-3D > Blade CP++ Blade cp electronic problem

A friend of mine has a cp and for some reason the 4 in 1 started smoking and melted down while in a hover.
Replaced the 4 in 1 but know it has a very strange problem. When the stickes are moved past about half movement the thing just goes crazy.
All servos start twitching, sometimes even going backwards and it only gets worse from there.
We have tried disconnecting all servos and motors and pluging things in seperate but still no joy. It does this on all channels and both motors.
Any ideas are appreciated.

No we did not. Is that common to need that replaced?

Make sure your crystals are seated properly. It is possible to damage your crystal in a crash, I think they are 10 or 12 bucks for a set. It could also be the reciever within the 4 in 1 -- they are not the highest quality recievers in the world. I am running all separate components in mine, completely eliminating the 4 in 1 or 3 in 1.

Thanks, I will give it a try. I did not think it would be the crystal as there was not a crash involved.
Thanks

You mentioned that this problem happens when the stick is above the half way point. When you installed your new 4 in 1 did you route the antenna wire the same as the original. It sounds as if it is either the 4 in 1 or radio interferance from the motor. Try to disconnect the motors (main & tail) then turn on transmitter and plug in battery, leave the transmitter antenna down and start to fiddle with the controls while slowly walking away. If the glitching occurs imediatly then try to undo the antenna on the receiver and lay it strait, make sure the antenna is away from any power wires (battery plug. Then repeat test. I have a BCCP with the super skids, if i run the antenna on the left side of the skid (where the antenna tube mount is located, i don't know why they put it on the left side) i get glitches at high rpms (when left tranmitter stick is in the upper position) So I just wrapped the antenna from the receiver on the right side of the skid, original location on a stock BCCP. Problem is gone. Try not to have the Antenna around any other wires (battery wires , plug, servos wires, etc.) Sorry for the long post. My background FYI, is many many to many to count with RC cars, raced in large races like the Reedy Race, i just got into heli, since driving my cars in front of my house by my self is no fun, and cleaning it afterwards is not worth the little enjoyment i get. So i decided on heli and, fly helis in front of my house by myself is tons of fun, since its such a challenge, since 1 crash = back inside the house to get the keys to drive to the hobby store.

Going to give it a try

I had both main and tail rotor motors unpluged because the first time I moved the sticks the thing went crazy. I will try unwraping the antena and see what happens. My thought was a bad 4 in 1 even though it was new, but LHS will not even hear of it. I asked them for help but they have no idea what to do next.
Thanks

Believe it or not, a bad servo will make this happen. unplug them one by and and test to find out.

I learned this lesson the hard way by trying EVERYTHING in the book plus a couple of "off the cuff" quick fixes. Problem ended up being a defective 4in1 that my good friend and electrical engineer pointed out. Return it, exchange it, and fly again. In actuality it's a cold solder joint on the board that creates too much resistance during "over current" or in your case movements past half stick.

Not to be picky, but genuine SuperSkids® have antenna mounts no both the left and right sides.

Probably a little late to reply about the glitch problem, but often the battery connector can cause this.

I had two 4 in 1 s go south on me, one did the same thing to me. Hovering a couple feet off the ground the thing just died. I checked the 4 in 1 and all the pieces melted off the board and were rattling around inside the box. The LHS told me to call Horizon and tell them what happened. They were very cool with me and had two more 4 in 1 s in the mail a couple of days later. Give them a ring, they will hook you up.

Thanks for all the ideas

We decided that after installing and hooking up 1 new servo, unwinding the antenna, no motors connected, new crystals; a matched set, the best thing was to buy a new 4 in 1. Problem solved kind of.
The problem was a defective new 4 in 1. LHS will do nothing for warranty as it has now been almost 60 days since it was purchased. Comment from LHS " Sorry but your SOL."
Any bird flys again.

Don't worry about the lhs. Tell horizon about it. If you wanna get back at you're lhs though (I don't reccomend or condone doing this unless they're complete jerks). Buy another 4 in 1, keep the new one and return the defective one as defective in the new package with the new recipt. A week after you have exchanged the defective return the "new" one (the unopened defective exchange) with the recipt for a refund or at the very least in store credit. Now once again, I don't think this is a great idea. BUT, I think fair is fair and if they sold you a defective 4in1 it should be thier responsibility to take it back.
