e-Minicopter Joker > Helicommand Profi mounting location. Gerd?

The Helicommand Profi needs to be mounted in a location where the optical sensors have a 15 degree field of view vertically.

Trying to find a mounting location on the MJ-2 when using an Airfoil Pro1 or similar rotating mount is a bit challenging. No point on the fuselage will work as the sensor view would be obstructed as the mount rotates. The only location that seems possible would be on the tail boom. The Profi unit weighs 220 grams and would have to be located somewhere near midway between the fuselage and the horizontal fin to have an unobstructed view.

Using two sets of the same parts as are provided in the MJ-2 kit for mounting the gyro (391 & 394) might provide a secure mount point. Knowing this is a highly stressed part of the structure, it would be helpful to have Gerd's input as to the suitability of this location in regard to stress and center of gravity. If this is not a good location, could Gerd suggest a better solution?

Thanks

Keith

I would recommend the rear end of the lower frame like Rhett has done it and add the batteries from the front side:

That would be the preferred location. The problem is, that the Rotating mount interrupts the optical position sensor in that location. The tailboom seems to be the only place with uninterrupted vertical view.

Rotating mount?
Do you mean the tail boom support?

I like my mounting, but given you're using an underslung mount, that might get in the way, I'd mount it on the tail boom. My recommendation is to get two gyro mounts, and make a carbon plate, with 6 holes. 2 to hold the gyro plate, 2 for profi, and 2 for gyro plate.

Gerd:

No, I mean the Airfoil Pro1 underslung mount as Rhett has mentioned.

As the mount rotates, it will interupt the optics of the Profi unless it is located outside the plane of rotation of the mount. I want to do as Rhett has suggested, but do not want to overload the tail boom structure.

Don't worry about overloading the boom. Don't mount the profi at the end though, keep is decently close. Don't worry, I've got my receiver, downlink, receiver, and downlink batteries all on my tailboom

I mounted the Profi on the left side of the tail boom, using extra gyro mounting brackets, long cap screws and two 17 mm alu spacers.
Works fine in position lock mode, even with underslung camera mount.

When the rotating mount is so large then mount two square aluminium sticks besides the lower frames, similar as the receiver batttery tray for the Acrobat.
Then you can lengthen the rear position as long as you need it. They are quite stiff (hollow profile) and you probably can get them in each home depot.
Or we have these 10mm U-profiles that we need for the AP landing gear.
Say me how long they should be and we cut a pair for you.
