I am ordering up the metal fan for the RJX and wondering if it is really needed. I know on the TREX it is pretty much a required upgrade. Is that the case with the RJX, or is it more for show!

No it's not required, it does produce a bit more air flow and in the hot Florida weather that I fly in does help with a bit more cooling. It is a really nice piece of machining and a shame to cover it up inside the fan though

I am running the TT53, is it a hot running motor that would require the metal fan?? I am in northern minnesota where the summer temps hit a blistering 90 for maybe 1 week out of the summer, other than that it is usually in the 80's during the summer!

Metal fans look COOL, but not really gain anything in cooling.

The metal fan with it's curved blades generates a larger volume of airflow. this is useful when it comes to hot weather.
I intend to change mine to the metal one the next time i remove the engine, gotta admit, it's more of the bling effect that gets to me

I spoke to the Supplier at the fun Fly and out of three helies, just one appeared to have the metal fan. They were running TT53's and seemed to have no issues.
Having said that, the metal fan has got a proper curved airfoil which will move more air. As they are so cheap, they would be a worthwhile upgrade.
I have ordered one straight away for mine, so it will have the metal fan from the getup and go.
Things can get mighty hot here in the Summer.

I switched to the metal fan on my X50. It seems to push more air than the stock plastic fan. Since it is reasonably priced, I would definitely get it. The stock fan did work fine and there was no flexing (like the 600N's).

It is not a bling, it does produce more air

this is a photo of the stock fan and the cnc fan, you can see the difference

It is not just bling

Until RJX modifies the plastic fan to have two magnet pockets, metal fan will be easier to balance than the plastic one. After installing the magnet in the only slot, I had to remove plastic around the magnet like swiss cheese to balance the plastic fan.

If the metal fan moves more air(have not tested), it will result in a lower head temperature. This will allow you to close the main needle a click or two. This of course means you will get more power and better milage.
