Hey guys,

Where can I find a proper power supply for a Hyperion EOS0610I DUO? I'll be charging 6s 5000 mah lipos but may also need to charge 10s 5350 mahs...

Any suggestions?

Cool Dad!! You landed upside down!!

Go with at least a 20 amp.

A computer power supply is a great inexpensive way to get lots of power for not a lot of money. I use an old AT style that is rated for 8A and it works great. Just look at the 400 and 500 watt versions and find one with a 12V amp rating you like and convert it. Shouldn't cost you more than $40 and the power is nice and clean.

That doesn't seem to bad but I still think you can save a lot more buy converting a PC power supply. For example here is one with a 28A 12V rail for $20!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16817255010

I even found a 38A rated model! Now I am not saying that I know anything about that brand but I am sure a suitable model could be found for less than $65 + shipping. Then you do a little rewiring, toss in a load resister and bam, 28A for $20! Well plus the cost of the 1ohm 10w (or so) resister and some of your time.

No pics but the idea is simple. There are some how-tos online. The basic concept is that you just open up the case, trim all the unneeded wires and get the 12v and ground lines run to some terminals of your choice. Then hook one end of a 1 ohm 10W resister to the 5v bus and the other to gnd. Next you need to make the power supply turn on. On an atx that just means connecting one of the main power conductors to gnd.

I can get more specific if you would like but there are some good how-tos out there, just search either this site or google.

I have an older hyperion and a computer power supply. It was a 300 watt power supply that I modified (like the instructions online) and my Hyperion keeps saying that the input voltage is too low and won't do anything. It works fine on my regular power supply but the computer supply doesn't supply the correct voltage. The cheap e-sky balancer works fine BUT the Hyperion won't.

Just some food for thought before you purchase.

Sounds like you need to place a 10W resistor on the 5V rail as per most online PSU build recommendations. Easy to do and shouldn't cost more than $1. Works great for me .

Depending on what size packs you are charging it might alo be worth going for a higher rated PSU (400W+).

Could someone give me a link to some detailed insturctions on how to convert a computer power supply? Any pics would be great too!

A quick search on the ol' Internet found this
http://www.wikihow.com/Convert-a-Co...ab-Power-Supply

Of course you would only need the 12v and ground buses, so it would be much simpler than this write-up.

I pulled an old power supply out of a stripped computer I had lying around (no ram, no hd, etc), bought about $10 worth of parts for the conversion, followed all the instructions, and... drum roll please... nothing. Didn't work at all. Most likely the power supply was just bad to start with, but I decided to forgo the headache of buying a new power supply and trying again, and just bought one of these, which I am very happy with:

$64 shipped.

Sorry to hear you failed on the pc power supply. That one you bought looks like a nice piece and will hopefully work well. That said I still think the pc power supplies are worth a try. You can pick up a 20A 12V bus model for about a third of the one you bought and then you will also have 5v and other voltages if you want.

Like I said, good luck with your new one but all you folks out there willing to get your hands dirty ... give a pc power supply a try

I have a Hyperion 1210i, when I charge my Air thunder 6S 5000mAh at 2C, 10amps, the LBA10 balancer limits the charge rate to under 8amps usualy 7.46amps the digital read out on my power supply is 15.5amps. Both the power supply and the charger have cooling fans that seem to draw some power based on the 15.5amp output.

You have to look at the total power required and not the current being pumped into the batteries.

22.2v * 7.46A = 166W
12.5V * 15.5A = 193W

The fan and other electronics draw some power but most of the difference is made up by the loss due to the efficiency of the voltage boost from 12.5ish volts to 22.2ish volts. That is never 100%.

As a side note, you should really consider a Cellpro 10s if you plan to keep charging those huge packs at 2C. It can handle 300W of total power and does not rely on the balancer to be able to discharge a cell in order to keep the cells equal. With 10A going in and a balancer that can only discharge at 2A total, you have a chance of getting into trouble.
