Blitz Helicopters Avro 90 > First funfly with my new Avro this weekend

I was at the Othello, WA fun fly this weekend. The Avro survived.

I have the hardest dampners installed (white inserts + 90/90) and I got just a little bobble during autos at first. But after I burned the first gallon, it started to smooth out. I'll give it another gallon or two before I choose to try something softer. Barely 10 autos on this new ship and I won the auto contest... so the bobble doesn't hurt the auto too much.

I found that +/-10º for pitch was not enough. (I started with sport 3d setup) I needed to move the long ball on the BH mixer to the inner hole. Then I was able to get +/-12º.

After making the 12º adjustment above, I needed to move the phasing collar. I tightened down the first screw, being careful not to tighten it too much for fear of breaking the thing. As soon as I let go, the thing fell down the main shaft. Not sure how that happened, but my firm wrench torque wasn't enough to make the set screw contact the main shaft. So I had to tighten it further. Now I have stress-marks on the top edge of the collar.

I am now firmly disappointed with the phazing collar. That part needs to be re-designed. I'll be replacing mine with something else (maybe from a Freya?) until this gets improved. I shouldn't need to use a torque wrench to prevent breaking a part.

I'm using the Super Stubz paddles with the weights all the way out. With this setup, and a little Aile/Elev expo, I was able to get the fast forward flight characteristics I expect. (I had to hold in a little back stick to stay in level FFF. This was the same on my Fury.)

The Avro flies great. Everybody commented on how quiet it was. I'm still getting used to it so I haven't really put it through a workout.

Oh yeah, I came in second in the drag races. All the other pilots were flying 600 sized electrics.

Mark,

It looked great in the air, and sounded great as well. There was a buzz about it around the pits. Hope to see it at Brooks.
