hellow all, well I'm getting pretty good at autos. My trouble is, when I want to "bail out,"the tail lags to the right. thats when I switch back to normal mode. I'm thinking I'm slowing the head speed to much. My curves in throttle hold are the same as normal mode. thanks........Rob

Its normal to kick. The nose turns left upon spool up, or tail turns right.

Its the torque of the head. The tail is not caught up yet. Be careful on bailouts, your Oneway wont like it for too long.

Slowing the head will make it worse.

yepp, exactly as Learn To Fly says.

To test it, do an auto that give you a lot or Head Speed, then it wont happen at all.

I have set the throttle curve a bit lower at the position about middle stick and just under, so the engine dont draw so much when I bail out(if/when doing the autos in normal mode)...it not only keeps the nose still, its probably better for the one way bearing. Done about 1000 autos, and bailed out perhaps 50-70times(mostly planned) and its the same bearing since the heli was new.
Bail out B4 rasing the stick if there is time.

When flying in idle1/2 I have a gov with soft engage so it is nice the the heli/tail/bearing :-)

I thought I had a problem with my RevLock20, cause it didnt engage the engine when I bailed out...is was so simple that the Head speed was higher then the set rpm (so engine just reved up to the target rpm withour pushing the blades). It was those Radix that was so easily driven that the head speed was high :-)

One other thing to think about:

I rarely botch an auto unless I am trying to save one that I already knowis going wrong. Meaning, you will know it is time to bail way beforeit is time to pull pitch. That being said, it is always best to flip out of throttlr hold before you pull collective. If the engine is going to be near idle anyway, the tail wont kick.

I havent seen it on a 50 yet, but on 90s it is pretty easy to strip gears and ruin oneways if you re engage the engine at power on settings. With 50s getting more powerful, it wouldnt surprise me to see it happening with them as well

Ok so just make sure I'm not on the throttle/ pulling pitch when switching back into normal mode? I'll try it again when the weather gets better. Also when doing an auto up high, do you guys feed in a little negative to gain head speed? Thanks for all the help.

Just make sure you have at least around 4 or 5 degrees negative for
autos. Head speed is determined by weight of machine, pitch and
speed of decent. Too much negative will not gain head speed, but
will gain decent speed. You turn that into head speed when applying
less negative and flairing.

When attempting an auto, pulling too much negative, it can be detrimental. If you slam in -10 instantaneously after you hit hold, you will slow the head and push the heli down. It is best to make a smooth deliberate motion to the proper pitch.

My Evo with V blades will auto beautifully at 0 pitch. It floats down very slowly, but the flare and pull is critical at the end. it looks and feels spectacular with a nice slide to finish it.

If I put much more than -4 in, it just makes the decent too fast and takes too much flare and pitch finesse to make it a good auto.

With practice you will start to find the sweet spot and it will become second nature.

I fly the same pitch curves at alla modes, including throttle hold.
