e-Century Hummingbird - Swift > Orion Micro Elite Modified & Hummingbird?

Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone has tried the Orion motor in their HB. If so will it work with the stock mixer & tail motor? What size pinion for the main?

I want to upgrade my main motor which gets very hot after about 5-7mins of flying. Since I went to Etec 1200 LiPols I would like a motor that will give me longer flights without risking burn-up. I really dont want to go brushless because of the expense.

any other motor/pinion recco's are welcomed as long as they work well with the Hummingboard and stock tail motor.

Thanks for the advice!

Elite micro

I run the elite micro modified motor with the stock hummingboard.

Works great, very smooth. 9-12 tooth pinions work well, different performance and runtimes.

Here's the pic

I'm making the shaft collars if anyone wants one PM me.

Thanks for the quick reply. My LHS has the motor for $45 and they have a 9T pinion. What can I expect with a 2pack of Etec 1200's?
Runtime, performance, does the motor get very warm? do I need to do any mods to the tail setup? Do you think this motor will have a much greater lifespan then the stock. My other option is a Speed 280 BB from tower for $22, but I've heard alot of great things about Orion. Also I noticed that there where no caps on your motor terminals......Not needed? Are you noticing any glitching?

Sorry for all the Q's but my LHS will only hold the Mtr for a day and I don't want to through away $45-50

Thanks

No caps needed

No caps needed on a coreless motor. Very little noise. I'm not running li-polys. but with the stock battery I'm getting near double the run time.

The motor gets warm compared to the stock motor which i would say gets scorching hot. Li-polys are next.

I also ran the 280BB motor, a Sagami with replaecable brushes. It works very well also not as hot as stock, similar run times with a 10 or 11 tooth pinion.

I now have two orion micro elite modified motors in my two flight ready hummers. Sssssshhhhhhhhh don't tell everyone, or you won't be able to get the motor anywhere.

Tell everyone what......LOL
Do you think the performance willbe good with the 9T thats availabel at my LHS or do you have a better rec? Also did you ever get the camera to work? I'm very interested in that concept ....especially in my line of work.

Thanks!

The 280bb acro motor (6v Sagami) from Hobby Lobby with an 8 tooth pinion is much hotter than the stock motor. Perhaps the post above was using the 7.2V motor?

I have a lot of flights on my hummer with one and 2S 1200mah E-Techs and the performance is about as much as the tail rotor will allow With a 7 cell birdseed pack the performance is also much better than stock.

A bit cost prohibitive though at around $40.00 but you can replace the brushes if they ever wear out.

Have fun and let us know what you end up using!

Hot = Temperature

Hot: meaning, temperature in the above post not performance.

And actually the motor was rated on the packaging at 7.2 - 8.4 v

It did not get as hot (temperature) as the stock motor and had similar run times as the stock motor using an 11 tooth pinion.

E-tech

You can get the E-Tech cells at many places. 2 that I would highly reccommend are;

www.helihobby.com
www.dreamhobbies.com

They both sell single cells and ready-made packs.
