Well, was brave enough the other day and tried some auto's, and man, 3D really auto's easily....

Can anyone maybe give me hint on how to get some forward speed during auto's.. its almost like it wants to hang back while comming down and i always end up short..

Check you have the trims set the same in hold as you do in idle up.
It fooled me for a while when I didn't realise my tx had separate set of settings for the trim in the hold flight mode.

...like you get time to twiddle with the trims during an auto!

as moyesboy said be sure your trims are the same on normal, st1, st2 and hold. then start high and in forward flight that will give you a chance to adjust the forward air speed.

only you have the power to make no difference!

Sounds tail heavy

Check the balance. Do you have the tail relocation kit? In stock form, they tend to be a little tail heavy.

they are tail heavy when the blades catch the air the tail doesnt have any way to "catch" any air so it drops enough to cause the heli to pitch a bit back. had this prob too and got t where id start my auto ahead of where i norm would then before it got too close t ground id pitch the tail around changing the nose direction and be right on track. helps the look of an ordinary auto. could change trim in hold mode to correct this too...

Theirs no such thing as up, it's all out...

Thanks all for reply's..

Rechecked balance, not tail heavy, might be touch noise heavy at end of tank.

my trims are touch out, so might actually be issue.. i added some subtrim last night. ...
will check on next outing, just need to find some fuel.. all lhs are out of stock ;-(

Trims

Perhaps my methods are flawed, but I would never use subtrim to compensate for poor flight trims in a ccpm machine. The subtrim adjusts the centering point of each servo before the ccpm mixing. Doing this may cause drastic interaction issues during flight. I would simply use the trim function while in flight, as this adjusts all the associated servos after the ccpm mixing. For example, aileron is a function of two servos, one on each side of the swash plate. Adjusting the sub trim on the aileron servo will only change the center position of that single servo, and this also "might" affect its endpoints. In contrast, adjusting the aileron trim while in flight will affect both servos that are mixed together by the ccpm programming to adjust both servos center point in flight. Trims and sub-trim are two completely different beasts when it comes to eccpm.

I prefer my helis to be neutral or slightly nose heavy with an empty fuel tank. I shoot a lot of autos towards the end of the tank. The last thing I want is a tail heavy heli during autos. Neutral is best because I do forward and backwards autos.

Subtrim

Thanks Tyler.

my subtrim was 0 all round, now go 3 on all servo's.. i alway adjust all at same time, never one at a time. this gives the same idea as using trim . ie, rather than have 10 on say elev servo, i rather go 5 on elev, and 5 on elev and pitch servo,s.
I know on the dx7 the end points don't change with subtrim and if you don't go above about about 10 on subtrim, then there still no interaction if you got exp enable on swash menu. (tried and tested ;-))

could not test today, as said, no fuel, at least got to fly some circuits on the 450e.. man, so boring.. hehe. at least tried some huricanes and get about 3 full circles before goes it goes south. but as they say, practice practice, practice

tyler my trims are set to 0 before i fly, in flight pending on whats going on i use the trims to help fly the heli.
balance is important for inverted flying when you flip if its not on cg it drifts bad

only you have the power to make no difference!

Karman - practice makes perfect. The good pilots (if given a not so perfect heli) can spot land the heli during auto rotation. They use the cyclic to point the heli were they want to go and just glide it in. If you watch them it looks very effortless. So imo practice practice practice. Next time around you will not care if you heli is a bit nose or tail heavy. You just do it and land perfectly anywhere you want.

... hahaha im typing this as if i can do it... I am still on the practicing side hehehe

the trick is not to make the glide ratio too flat through the wind. so if its windy you might want to start up wind a little so as your gliding down you drift down wind.

you can go pretty flat, 30-40degs below horizontal but dont push the forward speed too high or it will tuck under on you.

Update

Well, posting again, last week post disappeared with server crash

getting my auto's 100% now.. i simply fly them in. today had some scary ones, the wind was changing direction the whole time, so had few downwind auto's.. ... new tail blades already fitted

i'm getting all of them within 2m of destination now..

going to try source some radix blades soon, flying Funky Glass fibre at the moment.. sure will make even easier

cheers

Blades

Those silver funkey glass blades auto better than Radix 600mm blades, IMO. I use both.
