e-Electric Motors & Controllers > 9650 Servo and BEC Question !!

Hello all!

I was thinking about putting in a 9650 on my 450 electric bird. My question is, I saw a post somewhere about needing a BEC or "step-down" to be able to use this servo? I'm confused.. Please note I have a 401 gyro so i'll be using the servo in digital mode.

Anyways, my ESC is an bs25a otter esc and it has a built in BEC that is rated for 5V / 4A. Could someone please explain how all this stuff works? I'm running a 3-cell lipo here. Thank you for your help!

By the way, the pic isn't mine, found it on the internet but its the exact same thing. Thank you!

that setup will be fine with no step down.

That servo is rated for 6V. Your ESC is regulating 5V, so you're fine. The only time you need a stepdown is if you ESC (Or voltage regulator) is putting out more volts than the servo can handle.

Example: Your ESC/Voltage reg is putting out 5.8V, but your servo is only rated for 4.8V.

The older I get, the shorter my attention....... Oh look. A shiny penny..
