Audacity Models Pantera 50 - Tiger 50 > Carbon Tail boom supports

I'm looking into making up some carbon tail boom supports for my Pantera. Just curious to hear what you all think. Will I save that much weight to make it worth it? I'm trying to drop some weight from the tail of the heli to help with balancing. Getting a couple carbon rods to do this shouldn't be all that expensive either. Worth it?

I also want to do a carbon tail pushrod to do away with the guides. Would it be best to put at least one support or can I run just a straight pushrod with no supports?

I am going to try TRex600 supports. I have them on my Knight50. But they are shorter than the stock ones.

Quick UK makes a set for Evos, or Craptors. They fit fine. Colored too.

Also Central Hobbies sells a pushrod kit. I run my 50s with no guides. My 90 yes.

I also used a pushrod for the tail control and used no support. It doesn't flex a bit if you go with the cf. My other Pantera still has the giudes in place and there is a little kick on the tail on occasion so since there is absolutely none on the one using the cf rod ,and they are the exact same gyro, I am guessing the guides are hindering performance a little too. Also took alot of weight off the tail.

I meant to do that!!!

Anyone know the OD of the tail boom supports? I'm kinda lazy. Want to look at the LHS to find a rod that is the same diameter.

First of all, it is totally NOT worth the expense if your desire is to save weight. You just wont save enough to justify it. On the other hand, if you simply want them for the bling factor, you dont have to make them. Boom supports are so generic almost anything will work. Raptor 50 boom supports fit perfectly and will be super easy to find.

I think I may just go with a carbon pushrod. I don't need to save really any weight. I like the benefits of a carbon rod more than a standard linkage. But right now all that is on hold as I stripped a main gear yesterday in flight.

I just did the change. the Pantera support came out to 26g each and the TRex carbon were 10g each , a savings of 22g. They are also shorter so that brings up the stabilizer up some and also helps with the CG.

You could of course also shorten the stock supports if you wanted to.

I found in my 15 or so crashes, that I have never broke a boom support that was carbon, or a carbon pushrod. The aluminum ones bend, or snap in half.

Heres a good one. My Tigers second crash...

Had a 611, Tiger hit nose first. Boom bent like a scorpion. Pushing the pushrod hard and stripping my 9256 servo. Rod was fine. 125$ servo, not so good.

I did use Quick UK, which is top quality. Yes even their rods are nicer than most.

For those of you using carbon tail pushrods...what length did you cut the carbon rod itself?

don't have my tape handy right now but a little tip on inserting the threaded rod for the link. I first tried epoxy and after setting i was able to pull it out with some force. Didn't really trust it after seeing that figuring that the continual vibration and pushing pulling wouldn't take long to break it loose. I used JB weld and wasn't able to pull it out after curing even with a pair of pliers!
just my 2 cents

I meant to do that!!!
