| I'm currently planning a Pantera conversion. Just sold the super charger that is supposed to fund the project. I missed my target for funds, so we'll see how far this stretches. There is a plethora of information on converting Raptor 50's, which is what I've been doing my research on. I'm choosing to do a conversion for two reasons; One - the club I am currently a member of is an electric only club. I love my nitro Pantera, nitro in general, but I want to be able to fly at the club field. Finding empty lots/fields without driving for half an our is a challenge. Too much growth around here. (long story short, I can't snatch more than an hour or so of flying time out of my schedule any particular day, so I have to fly close or not at all- club field is 5 min away) Two - not actually my cash. I'm doing the build for a friend. While I can use and maintain the heli, he wants something big and stable he can take and learn on without the nitro support.
So, I'm shooting for 7-8 min flight times with mellow flight. We know that Pantera has 8.7:1 gearing and module (pitch) 1.0 from research on RunRyder. I'm currently looking at the Z-Power Z-50-800 motor with 780 KV on a 10t pinion like stock. So at 22.2 w/6 LiPo we have a 100% head speed of 2041 and a realistic 80% head speed of 1633 - which with 620mm blades I think is worth a shot. I figured I'd post in the Pantera section once I started the build. The biggest challenge is trying to keep the cost down and still find batteries. I was going to start with some low end lipos to get the project off the ground, literally. And if all goes well and my buddy loves it over his Blade CP Pro, see if he won't pick up a set of A123s for a second set. I'm still deciding the ESC, looking for a decent value that I can stay in budget with. I'll post photos when I get going -da |
