| this post got way out of hand...but thats what I expect here ....I knew someone was going to bring up belt dressing...that stuff is a total joke, worthless...I mean lubing the belts...have you ever scheduled a belt lube appt. at your local garage????/is it part of an oil change???????is it anywhere in the service recommendations in your owners manual????...that belt dressing may help slipping in certain cases...but it does the OPPOSITE...it makes the belt sticky to reduce slipping.......adjusting the belt(where aplicable) is a much better solution....hey thats what this thread was about.....I just wanted to see what was going on...looks like its split.......but I have to wonder...AGAIN....is there REALLY a need to lube the belt......or did some finless guy do it once years ago and everyone started doing it without any rhyme or reason
I have yet to see any other application of a rubber/kevlar belt that needs constant lubrication........cars(timing/fan/pump),motorcycles,industrial,lawn care...my riding mower has 3 or 4 belts to run the clutch/blades..and the belts on the mover are on the bottom in a high dirt/dust/grass environment, and used in hot temps...........why do ours???
actually if you think about it, the harley final drive set up is identical to the belt set up on the helis...two toothed pulleys(one big,one small) connected with a belt...although one major difference....high torque and there are much larger forces trying to stop the rear wheel from turning...our system is basically free spinning with not much resistence
this one seems like a personal thing....some will lube,... some wont.....thats AMERICA
