this post got way out of hand...but thats what I expect here....I knew someone was going to bring up belt dressing...that stuff is a total joke, worthless...I mean lubing the belts...have you ever scheduled a belt lube appt. at your local garage????/is it part of an oil change???????is it anywhere in the service recommendations in your owners manual????...that belt dressing may help slipping in certain cases...but it does the OPPOSITE...it makes the belt sticky to reduce slipping.......adjusting the belt(where aplicable) is a much better solution....hey thats what this thread was about.....I just wanted to see what was going on...looks like its split.......but I have to wonder...AGAIN....is there REALLY a need to lube the belt......or did some finless guy do it once years ago and everyone started doing it without any rhyme or reason

I have yet to see any other application of a rubber/kevlar belt that needs constant lubrication........cars(timing/fan/pump),motorcycles,industrial,lawn care...my riding mower has 3 or 4 belts to run the clutch/blades..and the belts on the mover are on the bottom in a high dirt/dust/grass environment, and used in hot temps...........why do ours???

actually if you think about it, the harley final drive set up is identical to the belt set up on the helis...two toothed pulleys(one big,one small) connected with a belt...although one major difference....high torque and there are much larger forces trying to stop the rear wheel from turning...our system is basically free spinning with not much resistence

this one seems like a personal thing....some will lube,... some wont.....thats AMERICA

Just a guess, but maybe while thinking we're "lubricating" the belt, we're just keeping the belt supple and more resistant to cracking and fraying due to the materials in the lube.

Following that line of thought, maybe Armor All would be better than silicone spray...

Somebody PLEASE loan Tryan a nitro so he'll stop whining...

Im with shizack that belt is crap at least the one I had and the one I bought. It would fray on the edges it must of been rubbing in the boom somewhere. It would skip the tail pulley with minimal pressure adjusted boom constantly to stop this. The oil stopped the need for all of this so how could after all that I not lube the belt.

IF I STOP POSTING I TOOK FENDERS ADVICE "QUIT CRYING AND START FLYING"

I know my belt is softer and more flexible after a good lubin. So no the belt may not require a good lube job but it can't hurt. Come on fender lube it and give er a go! You can't know if it helps until you try it. Maybe then you will have some real data instead of comparing it to a $300 high tolerance, precision implemented Harley belt.

lets see.......about 400-500 flights on the HBK.......well over 500 on the MT(still original belt...with some lettering on it)....no belt problems yet......I think I'll stay on the course I am on......if you lube your belt..its cool.....I see no reason to change what I am doing

Of course this is coming you living in a high humidity place. Try 500 flights in the desert at 5% humidity and I bet your results would be slightly different
