e-Electric General Discussion > GAUI Hurricane H550 vs Thunder Tiger E550 Raptor

Hey heli pros.

I'm trying to decide which of these to get as my second heli.

- Thunder Tiger E550 Raptor
- GAUI Hurricane H550 (or H550 XES PRO)

I have a Thunder Tiger E325 mini-Titan that is AWESOME. I've been flying it for about 3 months and want something bigger that can handle the wind better.

I've read a few reviews on the Hurricane 550 and one on the E620SE but wanted to get some more opinions. I know the Hurricane 550 takes 2 3s packs but I'm now thinking about going all out and getting an E Raptor.

I am a noob and just getting into flying circuits, nose-in hover etc. I won't be doing 3D but I do like to whip the heli around a little (upright of course).

I want to use no bigger than a 6s battery. I also want the longest flight time possible (with the appropriate motor of course).

So if you have flown at least 2 out of the 3 can you give me some comparisons as to:

A) Flight time (based on using a 6s or 2 3s packs in each)

B) Hover/flight stability

C) Ease of repair

Any input is MUCH appreciated.

I can't comment on the TT E550

I have the gaui 550 and it is a really stable bird, I flew it yesterday in some strond winds and it was rock solid, I use 2 3s evo25 2170mah packs and get 6 minutes, that's where the timer is set.

Well I have the TT E550 and it is great. Can't coment on the Hurricane.
The E550 is a very simple build, parts are cheap & it is very stable.

On 6s 4000 packs I can have 5-6 min of hard stick banging, or slow it down and get around 10min of hovering and basic sport flying.
The TT motor & ESC work great and come with it.
The E550 will take you from hovering to 3D and anywhere in between if you want.

Thanks jetfixrguy and AllThumbs.

I really like the E550 and love my mini-Titan but something is drawing me to the Hurricane H550.

Mainly the fact that I can use all the 2200mAh 3s packs I already have on it.

Also my LHS will give me a discount off the web price.

If Li-Po prices continue to fall, I might look at the Thunder Tiger E620SE next year.

You can use the 2200 3s in the E550 too..
I have hovered it on 1 3s 2200 Kongpower pack.. (Just!! ) while testing the packs out.. kind of a torture test!!
But have also connected all 4 of them up to get 6S 4400mah.
They all fit in the battery tray ok.
The E620 looks good, but the 10S packs were a little too much for me. For now anyway...
Might retire the E550 into one of TT's new Scale bodies in the future & go for a 620??

AllThumbs,

Yes, you CAN use 2200's in the E550 but you won't get any flight time. I have been told by EVERYONE that I asked that the E550 really needs a 4500-5000mAH pack.

I guess that and the fact that my DX7 does not do 140 degree swashes is what really led me away from the E550 raptor. I didn't realize the E Raptors were 90 or 140 degree only.

Oh well.

Yes, on the E550 you only see about 4-5min hover on the 2200 6S setup due to it being a little bigger & heavier than the H550
The spec looks good on the Hurricane?
Let us know how it goes

AllThumbs, jetfixrguy,

Just to update, I'm leaning towards the E550 Raptor. I'm probably going to use (2) 3s 3300mAh VERY HIGH QUALITY packs (CellPro Revolectrix) or (1) 4000mAh (True RC) pack.

I've been using low cost 4000mah packs for a while and they seem to work great. 9-10min easy hover or 5-6 min of the hard stuff..

Thanks AllThumbs.

I ended up going with 5300mAh CellPro Revolectrix packs. They might be a little heavy but the next size smaller was 3300's and I didn't want to have seemingly short 4-5 minute flights.

Also ended up going with the TT OEM motor.

Now I just have to decide on blades and I'm all set. I should be bringing the heli home Tue or Wed. and hope to have it built and ready to fly in 3-4 days.

Thanks for your input.
