It depends on the voltage. Anything over 4.8v you need a step down.

What battery or regulator are you running? That will determine if a step down is needed.

I am pretty sure he is using a 2in1 unless he has switched.

Yea I just got off the phone with him, its a 2-1 and I told him with the 611 to make sure its between the servo and the gyro otherwise it will still get 6v from the gain lead.

Was the 9254 replaced with the 9256? Is this used on the tail or cyclic?

The 9254 is for the 401 gyro and the 9256 is for the 611. The 611 is a tail servo only while the 9254(although expensive) can be used as a throttle.

Once again the same question is asked, and once again i look in awe at the responses from people who obviously have never run a 9256 without a stepdown. I once read in an article in a heli magazine that the average life expectancy of a tail servo is circa 200 flights. I have been running my 9256 on 5.8 volts regulated for over 250 now , with two tail first crashes on this particular servo.

The answer is plain and simple a fully charged 4.8 volt battery is nearly 6 volts fresh of the charger. The 4.8 volt only applies purely to Nicad technology and is to prevent people attaching a 6.0 volt nicad to this servo which when fully charged is over 7 volts.

A 9256 is safe to run without a step down on the Align 2 in 1 regulator as the average voltage is around 5.6 volts during a flight.

Simple....you would think

Droid,

While I agree that you could possibly be correct, the higher frame rate that rudder servos operate at may be the difference between rudder servos and say a 9252. I explain the 6v regulated thing on a daily basis, and although I do not have any proof that a rudder servo will fail, I usually recommend a stepdown. It's one of those things, that is usually just accepted. I am using an 810G on the throttle of my 600n, and realized the other day that it is running on regulated 6v, w/ no stepdown.

It'd be nice if Futaba would speak up here...I know we have some team guys reading this forum.

Your batteries charge to 6v??

Its 4 dollar insurance. And as Brian said, there's a difference between getting 50 hz off a reciever and 333 hz off a gyro or super servo mode governor.
