Hi Guy's,

Just after some feed back as to what people think the best 90 sized engine on the market is and why?

We are just in the process of building up the new X-treme 90, AKA "The Dominator" and would like to put the best power house in it.

Your thoughts are much appreciated!

Regards

Only 2 real chioces at the moment.

OS or YS

I like YS due to the fact it uses crankcase pressure vs OS that uses muffler pressure.

Either or you really can't go wrong.

I heard Nova Rossi makes a wicked 90 heli engine. Expensive and difficult to tune but it is also supposed to be another killer engine from them.

The YS in my opinion is the top 90.

The Nova Rossi 50 has some good numbers, the 90 less impressive but still good. I had a shop send me a 50 to try out and review, but the mounting holes were wrong. Rossi actually sends a Raptor mount with the engine, but I was not going to put it in one. The shop was going to send me a new one (H2) that supposedly had the right mounting system, but they never did and it was not a big enough deal for me to ride them about it.

One thing about the NR engines...Just from my research, they like lower nitro and tuned pipes. They are very temp critical since they are ABC engines.

I can see this quickly degenerating into a YS vs OS thread but here is my local NZ opinion (for what it is worth). From my previous expereince with using both the YS and the Webra, and also being involved in guys here that have been setting up OS90's cspec/SZ pumped etc, I really preferred the positive crankcase pressure and easy to tune (with three distinctive needles)nature of the YS. The only point being is NZ where fuel price is an issue is that from my expereince YS engines don't really like running on less than 20% nitro.
So get the YS(SR) Grant as I am very interested in this new RJX90 (vs the T-rex700) and how it performs with the YS and any fit issues (fan collets etc)will be great to know.

Hi Grant. OS-SZ Non Pumped. AWESOME power, little fuss (no extra plumbing), relatively cheap, easy to tune with a CarbSmart installed. Has a much better carb than the old C-Specs. Get an OS Bubbless Clunk to go with it.

don't put the os pumped motor in the pump is more hassle than its worth
if you go os use the non-pumped motor
my webra 90 has lots more power than the os90's i run and on low nitro

id say the ys sr hands down. At like 6000ft above sea level performance suffers at this altitude due to the lower oxygen level and the thinner air, however a buddy I fly with has a YR SR in his synergy, and its almost unboggable. I mean wicked power! But not more power than my logo 14 running on 12C prolites!

if im not blade bogging youll find me pack puffing

having used a YS ST, SR, and OS and a webra 90,Toki,TT,

Out of all all of them i have found the YS SR, the best engine for my style of flying.

I found the OS had more power using 20% nitro coolpower, but the YS was smoother and quiter and a lot less fussy.

The ys like anything from 20% nitro or above, below it i have found they are unhappy.

That is my experience only. I fly F3C style.

Thanks guys for your feedback..... I will let you know what I put in the beast and give you some feedback on the new machine.

I think I will call for the help of an experienced 3D master flyer to put it through it's paces as I think my loops, rolls and stall turns won't do it any justice.

Regards

One and the same motor. I talked to the TT Reps at toledo and they said that the 96 is expected to actually be a 106 when it actually comes out.

Time will tell if it's going to be any better than the YS or OS options.

Interesting with the TT 106 when i come’s out. What I don’t like from the pictures is the exhaust port! The bottom hole has threads into the crankcase. I have many bad experiences with threads in aluminium where vibration is an issue. Where the hole is located it isn’t to much thickness either.

I believe the reason for the third bolt has to do with the exhaust port shape. It's designed to encourage gas flow/performance by lowering the local pressure, to do this it has to be the shape it is. Like the redline 53, they are paying attention to all the small details. If they used two bolts with such a wide opening it would likely leak or have vibration induced issues. The YS uses threaded bolts but in flight the muffler stays put (when installed correctly), it's the crash resistance that may suffer. The other choice is a conventional exhaust port with conventional potential.
I think I just might like this exhaust port!

The Cspec with Viper Head and OMI clined big bore has always been one of my favorites. Never got round to trying a YS though.
