e-E-Sky Honey Bee- Lama- Belt CP- E-Smart > Good Pinion gears where to get them? What method to mesh with?

The pinions I got are crap and other Align type pinion don't work with the king2.

I use a strip of printer paper to mesh them, only have tiny bit of play like instruction said. This method seems to work OK before on my cars and CP2.

Yesterday, it was making grinding noises, the teeth on the pinion seems to be sharper, and it has chewed out a part of my gear.

Replace the gear with new one, installed a smaller 9T pinion of same brand on there. Flew about 3 pack and it started to grind and pinion lost a few teeth and my main gear coated with brass.

I think its a crap shoot. I use the align knockoff from helidirect for a few hundred flights. I turn the pinion upside down so the fluted part doesn't touch the main gear. I mesh it by feel just a little play and call it good.

If you have a nitro can I borrow it?

oops forgot to answer the question. If you give up and want the best get a steel pinion.

I've been running the Esky press-ons with fairly good success, until last weekend. The pinion must have stretched and it was spinning on the shaft. I didn't have any spares so put the last 10t I had in stock on which is a "Hard-one" from ReadyHeli. I also had to add the Park adapter to raise the motor high enough so the main gear didn't contact the pinion on the beveled part. I didn't do this on the last "Hard-one" I used and the pinion only lasted 10 flights. I have about 7 flights on the new pinion and so far its working quite well. Also the other thing I like about those hard pinions are they are very quiet.

EDIT: I just checked the flight log. I'm actually at 16 flights, with 118 minutes total run time on the new pinion and its holding up great.

Had a rhino gear on for quite a while now (not sure how many flights, but more than I got with the brass pinions), no sign of wear on either the pinion or main.

I rotate the main and "feel" for the tightest spot then use cigarette rolling paper to set a gap.

Where did you get get Park adapter? I enlarge the frame hole so those big headed pinion can pass thru. I glue carefully measured washers on the motor to raise it up a little bit. ( Thought of that after spending 2hr trying)

Oh yeah.. on top of that, I guess that all the vibrations caused the magnets on motor to came loose.

edit...

My motor shaft is 2.3mm. these are 3.17mm.. how do you make them fit?

Thank you guys again!

I thought I'd got the park adapter at Helihobby, but I just checkd and didn't see it there.

A better solution would be the X-treme frame stiffener. Release still pending.

I went through 3 different pinions and 2 were the Aligns before I learned. Man they went fast, like 10 flights on some. Now I run the press on ESky pinions and they work better than I ever imagined. I have 61 flights on my current press-on and it looks pretty good. Oh and I need to mention that I am using that on a 3900 motor with a Blade 400 gear. I think the higher quality gear is helping a bit, plus the less torque 3900 motor is probably easier on it as well.

As a note, I got my park adapter at Horizon Hobby.

Well my last gear went because bottom frame been broken make the front so weak that mesh came apart and damage the gears. I was thinking of drilling through frame at screw holes and put 2 piece of aluminum sandwiching the frame to stiffen it up. Don't really have access to tools to make that happen.

I see. Park adapter for the BladeCP brushless setup.

this is the only solution that ive been able to come up with, but at best its probly second to the xtreme frame stiffneres mentioned before

the reality is this is only going to prolong the break or bend.

I wish I was good at this

and you just HAPPENED to have rolling papers around.....YEAH...OK.....LOL

that extreme frame stiffener looks really cool...3 jobs in 1.....stronger frame....raises motor......extended battery tray...those guys are really thinking

a question for all you guys running a tray like this now.......I'm assuming the stock canopy wont work????????

What thickness should I use. Orange or White ones?

Well. I think I know the root of my gear problems. It seems that screws that I use don't want to stay put to keep the mash. I was able to extract bearing off one gear with stuff around the house, then I use bearing less main gear for B400, Only got a 9T pinion left so I put that on. I have hard to installing it because when I tighten the screw to the motor, screw will slip forward and mesh will be loose. I might need to find screws with smaller head to fix this.
