you are making want to convert my heli to diesel, ya belching big black clouds of smoke, I like to eat beef, I like to smoke cigarettes, I want to eat beef that came from cows that smoked cigarettes ..

Anyone who says it's a small world never tried to walk to Zimbabwe.

Would you run 15% or 30% Baby Seals if available?

Dude! If my RC helis ran on baby seals I'd still own 10 of them.

I just went tramping for 3 days through some of the remotest areas of New Zealand at the end of the trip we stopped for an hour to watch probably a hundred Seal pups waiting patiently on the rocks for the mothers to return from 2-3 day hunting trips. How anyone could slaughter the little critters is beyond me even if their oil works well in an OS90.

If you are interested in nature and Seals this is an awesome trip which finishes off with a 45minute Heli ride back to the nearest road junction.

yea,

I love the smoke,the noise,the power.
If i could hook up a four barrel carburater to my 90 ship I would do it in a heartbeat. To think that we could destroy
God's awesome creation so easily is rather absurd.

Methonal and nitro methane isnt all that bad for the environment as you might think. Im sure its better than running a two stroke weed wacker. Maybe I'll do some quick analysis of it.

Pure Methanol
2 CH3OH + 3 O2 → 2 CO2 + 4 H2O

30% nitro + 50% Methanol, neglecting oils
(0.15 CH3NO2 + CH3OH) + (O2 + 3.76N2) → H2O + CO2 + N2 + CO + H2

If anyone has Matlab or a matrix solver and can balance that equation that would be super. The nitrogen should not be a reactant in the equation just provide negative work in the reaction due to an increase in temperature. The majority of the product should be water. I dont know what oils are used in heli fuel so I can include them in the reaction. It also assumes typical 21% O2 and 79% N2.

Get a life? How the hell do you fly a life?

I read somewhere that you will put more pollution in the air driving your car/truck to the flying field than you will flying your heli.
Just sayin

It sounds quite likely to me.

Let's say a car does 30 mpg in the states - if you drive 15 miles to the field then 15 miles back, you will burn a gallon of fuel.

Compare that to a gallon of fuel on the field... OK - it probably takes more energy to make a gallon of 30% nitro than to make a gallon of petrol/gasoline.

But another way of looking at it is to imagine the benefits if you bought a slightly smaller car that did 50-60mpg rather than 30 - and I know a lot of US cars are even worse than that. Over a typical year of driving you would save many times more energy than you would by giving up helicopters.

I'd be willing to bet that a lot of people are driving smaller cars than they otherwise might, because they need the cash to spend on helicopters. Ergo helicopters are good for the environment.
