I know it has been asked before.. and I did a search and found 1 on the subject but it was cover mostly other size heli's

I crashed this last week, almost inverted and tail first.. have spent around 100 for parts.. but most part come in packages of more than 1 part, this will bring down the cost, plus I have blade sets already just in case on hand.

anyone got a handle on the average crash cost.. I know you can total it just as easy sometimes. other than replacing blades and boom and shafts whats next part to keep on hand. I'm using gorilla gear since they can take a lot of abuse.

I am still a beginner this is my first real hard crash, didn't want it , but kind of glad to get it out of the way, but waiting for parts to arrive suxs, this time of year air time is a premium and want to keep everything on hand , short of another kit on the shelf.

I am flying a trex 450 SE V1 with woodies.. how do you tell if grips are bad.. don't see and damage feather shaft may have slight wobble

I have 0 frame damage and have bleach bottle canopy, I don't think the front hit just tail and blades.. the most expensive part seem to be the fin set and I replaced boom brace with alum. instead of the fiber. did not break the boom braces.. all my part arrived today except fin set.. any recommendation on a good looking cheap fin set. 15.00 seems high priced to me for stamped out part

crashing one heli at a time.. still cost major $$$$$

Main gears, shafts, landing gear, blades, ball link, tail booms, I try to keep plenty of these on hand. I am guessing $20-$30 dollars if you DONT destroy the blades...

Use the wood blades and a fiberglass canopy will help keep the cost down too. I've had crasehs that cost $150 but average, $25.

I fly metal gear servos with woodies so my crashes are cheap.
blades are $13, main shaft i think are $3/piece, feathering shafts are like $2/piece, main gear is around $3/piece (just the gear), boom is like $4/piece.

Thats usually a decent crash for me. $25

if you use plastic blade grips with the v-blades, you only pay for ten dollar blade grips..
i was doing a loop yesterday and the tail rotor quit , it went down prety hard..
only broke one blade grip.. that was all.

If you crash hard enough to break your grips, then your feathering shaft and main shaft are toast also.

It's hard to compare even the Trex's.

For my TREX 450 SE v2 (mostly metal/carbon), I've had 5 major crashes. The average crash cost me $25.

I did have a fairly minor crash a few weekends ago that cost me just over $50, but the majority of that was my Radix blades.

Get the cheap $9 woodie blades from www.techmodelproducts.com until you are not crashing as often.

but the blade grips are plastic,, i just rolled the main and feathering shafts on a glass surface and they are fine..it sounds too good to be true, but maybe i just got lucky that time,.. but i really only broke one plastic blade grip. when you hit the blade on the ground it just snaps the plastic in half.

I had my first crash last week. Idle-up inverted.

About $100, but as you said, now I have replacement parts for 1 or 2 crashes.

When replying to this thread, you should probably post the type of TREX you have.....as stated, the SE v2 won't break as many parts, whereas the SA will.

I'm curious as to the major differences of $25 per crash vice $100 per crash....it is simply a SE vs. SA crash?

trex 450se v2

yup. Full metal head will save you both money and fear.
I hardly every fly my blade 400 in fear of putting it in because of the cost. When I bury the trex, I already know whats broken before I get to the crash.
them: "damn man, thats goda be like a $100 crash"
me: "nope, its just the usuals, $25 maybe if its bad"

The best part about it is that they are so easy to fix also. You can crash and as long as you brought a crash worth of parts with you to the field, you can have it back up and running before you battery is even charged.

Love the 450 for crash costs- I cannot see saving money with plastic grips- I went to metal to save money. V1 SE basically, with a few little mods.

Carbon blades broke in my last crash (really only one broke) because i was fighting to salvage the bad aileron flip/timing/and full power into the ground.

Aside from blade, and bad motor bearing (was likely on its way out, lots of flights on a used Medusa- and I'll send it for replacement bearing)...

New main gear, main and spindle shafts, one link, straightened the boom and scabbed the carbon frame side and she's good to go-

The little 450 is so easy to repair, love it. Cheap- I'd go with the $25 or less per crash aside from blades.

Crashing the .50 sized is a drag...$80+ blades guaranteed.

Never, ever, ever, ever give up.

hah, ya that 450 crash carnage was pretty impressive helimatt. I've never seen anyone strip the main gear all the way around. I'm glad the 450's are back up.
