| Wanted to share some tips/tricks and maybe get some feedback on how others fly their stock 450se v2 in a scale fuselage.
I just put in a Evo25 3S 3700mah hour pack. This sucker is huge, but the extra weight is worth the trade off for flight time. I'd guess air-up weight to be close to double my stock bird's air-up weight. Even with the excessive baggage I'm getting 7:30 doing some decent sport flying (putting back in 2800mah). Another plus with this pack is it moves the CG forward and almost perfectly where it needs to be. I have the 450 frame mounted to the fuselage using the factory SEv2 struts which allowed me to position the pack on the 'floorboard' of the fuselage. If your's is mounted using the wood blocks, you may have to settle for mounting directly on the 'floor'.
I'll leave this pack installed and never remove it. I also think it's best to screw-mount the nose on and not rely on just the magnets. The screws need to be backed with wood (fuse side) and washers (nose side) for maximum effectivness.
FTIK: I had upgraded from a 2170mah hour pack and was getting about 4 mins out of it.
I'm loving the new pack, so decided to change pinion from 12T to 13T. Nice bump in power, but not a good idea. The motor overheated (appx 3mins in) and caused an unplanned landing into some brush. Temps are getting higher here than since I've begun flying (about 90-ish yesterday). I think that contributed, too. Went back to 12T (wouldn've tried 11T, but don't have one). I've flown a couple of more charges since and no problems.
Carbon fiber blades are definitely needed, probably because of the extra weight? I had align wood 335's (which I believe are the same length as other mfg's 325). The motor was working a lot harder (almost struggling) with them on there.
One final note about scale bodies: They are a PIA to set up which is why I think a lot of people get discouraged with them. You don't just do a rebuild and think you're done with it. Each one will be as painstaking as the first and the whole thing will need to be broken down a couple of times before it's right. Once they are setup properly they can fly many, many flights problem-free.
Anybody have recommendations on pinion/motor/battery choices? Also, do ambient flying temperatures matter and are scale models more adversely affected? Thanks for any feedback. |
