Anyone know much about these? (I know it was mentioned not long ago, but only briefly).

If I'm going to build a 450, I'd like to get off the beaten path a little, without venturing into the junk helis.

The EXI looks pretty impressive, and price wise, it's not to far different from a bare bonez Belt CP.

Thoughts?

Another one that looks interesting:

2old2fly,

Glad to see you broading your search. Also something to consider is that within a few months we will (hopefully) have 3 new awesome 450s to choose from:

MA Bandit
Outrage G5
Rave

Plus the Beam E4 is already out.

While these helis are far more than you need, the current owners of Trex's and Mini's will be looking to unload thier last year's model. Maybe you can pick one up for cheap.

I think you just described the Thunder Tiger Mini Titan. It might be more that you were looking to spend, but I think the quality is well worth saving up for.

thats a nice barebones TREX norsman.

20ld2fly just keep your eye on the classifieds youll find a deal that will suit you. It got me into a full CF and CNC TREX for very little. Its now the only one I fly. But I found bashing around a micro with no TG or Sim much cheaper than jumping in with both feet on a 450.

Guys, this is great stuff!

Yeah, the EXI is more than I need, but then, so it the Belt CP.
They're both 450 class helis, which is a lot more than a guy just learning to hover will ever need. But they do have that size advantage, so they pick up the stability.

I'm just scouting around right now.
I'm watching the classifieds, and flipping over rocks.
Like I said, I'm trying to get off the beaten path a little, and find something that has good quality, at an affordable price.

Minis are a consideration, but they're a bit spendy. They're much more of a main stream heli, and have the main stream price.

By the way.. I like the shot of the EXI next to the King II. It really shows the size difference. If you look at the specs, it seems that the 450's are only a little larger. But seeing them side by side like that REALLY shows it off!

20ld2fly everybody has there opinion of what to get and none of them are wrong. But they all fly so whatever you get your gonna beat the hell out of it and possibly crash it to the point its not repairable so add this in your thinking. None of them are cheap they are all expensive I had over $500 in just learning to hover a BCPP. But I do not regret it the king wasn't around for another 6 months later.

IMHO

A 450 is WAY easier to learn to hover on.

MUCH more forgiving.

Ask me if I can fly nose in. :)

Speaking of EXI,

A TREX 450 SA is $200 now.

If EXI can beat that, it wouldn't be by much would it?

Ask me if I can fly nose in. :)

It is amazing that align is trying to compete with the cheaper brands and hold back the flood of mini owners. But EXI at $99 is the best CF BB kit out there. Just be ready to buy the rest.

Tryans hit it on the head any 450 size heli is cheap, it's the electronics and batteries that drives the prices up, and that is the heart and soul of the heli. When you go into the 450 class helis your electronics will need to be a better grade than what your using now so the Sa comes with the electronics for $200 and that is a good deal to get into a 450 size heli..... Your going to spend all of that or more to equip the EXI Price out the electronics and you will see what I'm telling you...
Oh and don't skimp on cheap servos esc or batteries as you will just be buying new and better stuff later.....

Hey Slider!

Yep.. Been pricing the bits & pieces for a while now. I've been looking at building out a Belt CP Bare Bones, so the prices of the components isn't a surprise. I'm not looking at junk quality, but I'm not looking at top end 3D Grade either. There are middle roads out there for general class flying.

As was pointed out to me, the Trex 450 for $450 is built on "less than high grade" parts. That's how they're keeping the prices down.

I'm not committing to EXI yet. But I look at it this way: I don't have to build the whole thing overnight. I can pace it out, and build it up the way I want it. Then I have a solid airframe with some solid equipment in it.

The longer I look around, the more little gems I find.

Do your research and compare prices on everything, it will pay off in the long run. Also check the resale value of the helis your looking at...

Norsman,

Yeah, I hear ya!
I started watching the classifieds a couple of weeks ago when I started this project. It was part of the deciding factors to moving ahead with it.

Now, I will say that I seldom buy used parts, and even rarer that I buy things off of forum classifieds, there's just to many out there who will part you from your hard earned money, and give you junk, or nothing in return.
But I think that with some care & caution, I can do a decent job of outfitting this heli without spending a fortune.
Time & patience.. just time, and patience...

I paid $240 a year ago.

I think they're around for $200. I'll check.

Think of it as $100 450SA and $100 motor and ESC.
