after a crash in my vario acrobat last weekend, i have fixed it and set it up today, when i hover the tail drifts to the right.i put trim in 1st and it stopped.so i landed and shortened the tail push rod, then hovered again, but still drifted to the right,so i put trim in and it stopped, but every time i shorted the push rod it didnt stop it, after a few tries id shortened it that much i only had movment in one direction? puzzled me. i can stop the drift with sub trim but not by shortening the push rod??? could the gyro be damaged?.

are you in heading hold mode or rate mode when you do this? You need to be in rate mode and set it up so it doesn't drift. Then when you are in heading hold mode, it shouldn't drift. If it does drift, you are getting some vibration somewhere. If so and you can't find anything bent or crooked, then change the gyro mount tape. I had similar problems with a 401, switched to 770, same problem, then I tried zeal tape and it was all gone. You shouldn't use any trim when setting up the 401

Man, I miss the eighties.

it was in heading hold. i know about the trim that your not suposed to put any in. i have 2 other helis with 401 and 9254's in and i may trim them a little if there out. if its a lot out i adjust the push rod. seems to work for me. but today i adjusted the trim whilst in heading hold and it stopped drifting, but it needed a lot of trim so adjusted the rod but it made no difference. could there be anything else wrong.?

Is your rudder trim identical in all flight modes? It MUST be, or when you change to different idle-ups, the gyro has no idea where neutral is anymore if the rudder trim between modes changes.
