e-Gaui Hurricane 200 & 550 - EP100 > Hurricane 550 550 auto rotation problem with ESC

Hi there, Just thought I'd share a little experience which I had today when I tried autos with my new 550 (stock 50Amp ESC). So I took off, just in normal mode. climbed about 100 feet and hit the throttle cut switch! (I didn't have the intention of landing, I just wanted to see how quickly it would drop!) Anyway...... I get to like 15 feet, and flick the throttle hold switch back to off.....(here I am expecting the power to come back on).......but instead it just did nothing!.. So I brought It down to the ground (bounced alittle), next thing I know (when its already on the ground) the STUPID thing begins to power up again!!!!.... :O and IM like ..... /

Anyway it did the funky chicken as the blades hit the boom.

So I tested it back in the pits, and it turns out that at random the power just doesn't come back on. Sometimes I can flick the switch and it comes straight back on as it should. .... Sometimes I flick the switch and it takes like 5-7 seconds before the power returns....?????

I think this ESC is crappy.. Anyone else have the problem?

ANyway just thought I would share.

Fly hard and loooowwwwww!

I have been using the Guai 50 amp in gov mode and have just doing autos.....I have not encountered the problem you have had.

I do not usually try autos in normal, as I want all the HS I can get in UI 1....and I have hit TH off and had immeadiate spool up.

Now in normal mode the Guai has a super soft start and that me be causing the problem. try it in UI and see if it makes any difference.

So far this esc has worked super...I really like it...maybe I'm just lucky.

Sounds like the soft start is getting you. If programmed for soft start, it will automatically use it if the throttle is off for a certain number of seconds, I don't remember how long. If you shut the throttle off for a very short period and power back up right away, there will be no soft start.

Thanks for the responses, It seems that there is a time delay between when the processor reverts back to soft start mode if the throttle cut switch is enabled for a certain period of time.(A long Auto will make it do this!!)

When I have tested it, switching flight modes does not seem to make any difference.

It seems that if you want to practice autos, you need to completely disable soft-start on the esc.... just something to remember.

Ive just ordered the short boom kit and 16tooth pinion with lightweight paddles, cant wait to see how it goes!!

Thanks guys.

The CC (Phoenix) ESCs also go back into soft start when you go to 0% throttle too. There is a way around this. The way to practice autos so you can bail out is to set your throttle hold at 25% throttle. This way the motor keeps spinning just slow enough that the head free wheels. If needed, you can flip the switch and bail out. However, now you can't use throttle hold as a safety switch to keep the heli from spooling up if you accidentally hit the throttle.
