Radio - Servo - Gyro - Gov - Batt > TJ Pro question

I have a question for all you TJ pro gurus. I am stumpted! I'm running a TT Redline in a 600 Pro and I can't seem to get the headspeed that I want. No matter what I do it won't go above 2050ish. Using a dx7, I'm running two mixes to disable the TJ in normal mode and to set my target RPM in both Stunt 1 and 2 as per the modelavionics website. I'm using a 9253 in the super servo mode. My throttle and aux2 ATV's are at 100 and trim is down when I calibrate. I've even tried to 'trick' the TJ in the calibration mode by not lowering the stick all the way to see if that would allow me to get more RPM. I know it's engaging because I can set the heli on the ground while it's in stunt 1 and manually adjust the RPM by changing the ATV. After bumping the ATV up to about 90 it stops increasing the RPM.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? I've been fighting this problem for some time, even with the O.S. I had on the Raptor 50. I just really feel like I need that extra RPM to make the Redline happy.

Thanks!

my first question is.. can you get a higher headspeed with the tj diabled?

The older I get, the shorter my attention....... Oh look. A shiny penny..

George has a point there. Your motor and the Trex gear reduction actually has to be able to turn the head at your 2050+ RPM in the first place, the governor can't perform magic simply because you want it to.

And it would appear that even if it can turn that 2050+, your TJ's going to want to be maxing out the motor at all times....

I believe george0079 means "disabled". Good question. Try it with a descent throttle curve, about 100-50-100 to start, and at mid stick (the 50% throttle curve position) and while still on the ground, adjust this point to the RPM you want, and experiment with a higher RPM if at all possible.

i know what you mean, i had the same type of problem and could not figure it out. i had a rev max, and it worked on a dial, on my 10x. it would work prfect until a certain rpm and it just would not go any higher. i recalibrated it over and over and it still did the same thing. i am positive my rpms would go as high as i wanted because at 5% and lower on the dial it turns off the remax and the rpms would shoot up.

I've got the exact same issue with one of mine. If I disable the TJ Pro then I can increase the headspeed, but with it on, it's like it hits a brick wall. I've recalibrated etc, but haven't been able to find the answer.

I wonder if it is an electronic issue with the TJ? Has anyone had trouble with their RevMaxs?

I can't comment specifically on this issue but I know mine would not calibrate properly without the trim being centered. It would not work with trim at the bottom as they instruct. I would try it with trim centered and see what it does. IMHO the TJ series is notoriously hard to setup and since I have moved to MultiGov's I've never looked back.

Hmm, I'll try it with the trim centered. I've got 2 of them and they both do the same thing on 2 different helis. My RevMax on the 3rd doesn't seem to have the same issue, so it'll be a good comparison.

my TJ pro won't hold rpm right if the sensor is going bad, or too far from the magnet... also if the sensor is failing, you won't be able to reach the targeted rpm... the governor will lock on to rpm, just not the rpm you have selected.

I don't think that's what I'm seeing, since it's happening with 2 different helis and 2 different governors, and the sensors are just barely clearing the magnets in the fan.

have you ever tried one of the optical sensors??? I tried one in one of my helis and love it. I'm still running two helis with magnetic sensors, but as they fail or get broken, I will be replacing them with the optical sensors.

I haven't, I'm really looking forward to the one that's going to come with the new Spektrun AR7100. That thing is cool, no magnets, just mount to the backplate of the engine and it senses the crank pin! Supposed to be interchangeable with the hall sensors we all know and love so much.

Could you post more info on that AR7100?

is it possible you guys are hitting the top RPM of the TJ?
9500 ~ 20500 rpm engine shaft speed

perhaps it's lower on certain rev's of the TJ?

I'm pretty sure I've tacked my 8.7 geared Titan over 2100 running a TJPro, about 2 years old now.

...yep...

Hi

Try checking the servo monitor screen and see that at 100% aux2, that you do infact have 100%.

You may be messing yourself about with the mixers.

Try doing it the 'normal' way with the aux2 switch with 0 on the one side and then start at 50% on the other. The 0 sede will be off. the 50% side will give a low rpm. Get a mate to increase this while you are flying...or on the ground with rotors spinning....

Sorry if i have over simplified this.

The mixers to get 2 or 3 rpm's can mess you about. if the innitial rpm is too low, even with 100% mix, you doent get enough. After all 100% of a low starting value will be double the low value. ie 30% aux2 plus 100% mix of that, gives 60%

Regards
Paul

That would be the ceiling of 2,411RPM head speed for the Trex600. I've seen it, and certainly it is not screaming at 2,411RPM.
