Main Discussion > What have you found to be the max operating temps for escs, brushless motors and lipo packs?

I was doing some research on esc's, brushless outrunners and lipo's max temps. I've found that they're around 200, 200, and 145 respectively. Anyone ever hear of this or agree/disagree? Those numbers sound awefully high to me.

For example, my B400 after a HARD 4.5 minute 3d flight averages 100-110 for the esc and motor while the lipo will be around 120ish.

Just wondering since warm ambient temperatures are almost upon us and I'm curious about what the max's are, you know, just so I don't melt the thing one day during consecutive packs.

The operating temp limits for motors and ESCs can vary. I generally use 160 for the electronics or 130 for the batteries, and I'll look for heftier hardware or lessen the load. 140+ on the batteries is where they start getting damaged. In normal operation, when everything's working well, I usually see about 120 on the batteries and 100-110 for the ESCs and motors, about what you mention.

All the above in F, btw.

osterizer is correct,

on motors, many can withstand 200F, BUT as temp raises internal resistance does too, so >180F that motor wont be very efficient, thats why you want it as cool as possible.
