I put a temp sensor on my Hyper, it's a loop style sensor and the display can recall max temperature reached.

My question is what is the maximum safe temperature I should be looking for? The loop is around the lowest fin on the cooling head.

Also, will a hard, high climbout load the motor at full throttle long enough to get the temperature to hit it's peak point?

Yes I know I should have a CarbSmart on it but I'm a little poor at the moment. Maybe in a couple weeks.

I've been trying to use a lot of two stroke outboard knowledge I have on tunning these nitro motors and I've come to one major conclusion, YOU CAN'T. Outboards we run rather high EGT's sometimes a little over 1,200 degrees and I've slowly been working one of my Hyper 50's leaner and leaner to see how it does. I've learned these things can't run anywhere near that high for two reasons. First, the pressure tube melts off the muffler, done that a couple of times now, but that can be made to work. The biggest problem I've faced is you will need tuck load of glow plugs, those dam things just can't handle a lean motor. I've gotta figure out how to put a spark plug in one.

Why would you want to make it run upwards of 1200 degrees?? That doesn't make sense. Just adjust the needles accordingly for power and make sure the back plate is warm to the touch.

What I have done before is do 2 or 3 full power loops and kill the engine. If the engine hangs on the pipe it is probably to lean. If it doesn't lean it up till it does then back it off a few clicks.

I'll second the 215deg motion. 220 is a personal allowable maximum for me. Same as nitro cars too fyi.

What's the old saying, leaner is meaner. A two strokes makes it most HP just before it melts down. I've reached head temps of 300 degrees on the Hyper 50 I'm experimenting with and it makes awsome power but the glow plugs don't like it worth a crap.

NO, I'm not suggesting anyone run their hyper 50 that hot. I like to experiment with all types of motors pushing them to their limits. You're not going to know the limits until you go beyound them. Then you see what you can modify to raise that limit.
