It looks like an old analog gyro similar to the futaba I had over 10 years ago when I first began flying. As inexpensive as heading hold gyro's are now, your much more than likely and better off going for one of those, verses the analog you have there.

Man.... I had no idea what an addiction this was going to be.....

I am not sure the model number, but that is one of the old Futaba mechanical jobs.

I see where you guys are coming from, but it is not a Futaba GY154 because it did not have a ribbon cable from the gyro to the amp. It also has orange/red/black wires which imply it is most likely not a futaba job.

Good call. It probably is a JR piece then.

well as it sits i am unable to afford a new or used one, this one was sent to me by a fellow flyer. so now i must again sit and wait or put this bird on the shelf where i guess it belongs. sad to see this happen but oh well. thanks for the help guys. i guess i'll stick with my boats. and keep this century hawk sport as a topic starter . cant find anything on this gyro but again thanks all for the replies and godspeed.
safe flying to all....

p.s did a search for jr 120 and this its not.

Does this gyro work? If it works and you are learning to fly then use it. This gyro will be plenty good enough to learn on. Many guys will tell you not to use it but most of them don't know anything about an old mechanical gyro like this. Here's a secret, if you operate this gyro and a new solid state non-mechanical gyro in the same helicopter in rate mode, you won't really be able to tell the difference. Yes, if you get to the point where you are ready for backwards flight or 3D then you will need to invest in a modern heading lock gyro. The connections should be pretty easy to figure out if not self explanatory. The picture is dark but I think what I see there is a plug for the tail rotor channel on the receiver, another plug for the tail rotor servo and a remote gain plug for setting up different sensitivities (you don't even have to use that feature). If you try to set it up and have questions just ask. Good luck and by the way, I learned without a gyro so you will be doing way better than I did if this gyro works.

gyro

hahahaha thats the thing. without the manual i am unable to do anything with it. and for the fear of hooking this ass backwards and then blowing it along with my reciever. then i am still out. why i ever even got to trade my electric for this i'll never know. but now am thinkin it was a wrong thing to do. even tho people tell me nitros are easier to learn on i am thinkin its a curse. i'll just let it sit on a shelf and whenever or if in the future and that will be a long time that i can get a gyro then i will as for now its goin away for a mighty long time.
thanks all for tryin to help but its a lost cause. i'll take this gyro and take it apart for the parts inside can be used for a whole different project...

You got two wires coming from the sensor, one goes to the servo, one to your rudder channel. Impossible to mess that up. The lead from the little box goes to an auxillary channel. Very self explanatory. Make sure servo opererates the correct way, then move the nose and verify the gyro corrects the right way.

ok here it is all.... take a closer look at the pictures. off the gyro itself i have 2 male connectors. off the switch with the gains i have 2 female ends. what gives...... it aint as easy to set this up as a 2 wire futaba 401. this has 4 wires.

That gyro is very simple. I'm not sure what brand that is but it doesn't really matter. You have four leads. The two that are coming out of the gyro plug into the tail rotor channel and the tail rotor servo. The smaller box is probably the manual gain control and/or limit and has two more connectors. I think these two connectors plug into an alternate battery source and an auxilliary channel for sensitivity switching from the transmitter. I'm pretty sure that these two plugs don't have to be plugged into anything if you don't want to use them. If you are learning they will not do much for you anyway so you can just bundle them up and zip tie them off. You will not hurt anything by plugging this stuff in and playing with the gyro to see if it does work and what the functions of the adjustment controls do. Give it a try and see what you figure out. Good luck.
