So, I have been playing my sim for a few days, playing the Heli orientation. The longer I try to hover, the sloppier and more out of control my bird gets. I have to set down the chopper and start over? I make small adjustments,I try to pre-judge stick movement....... What gives, I want to break my comp! Is there any good advise that you used to learn the proper technique's?

Just stay at it . . . it takes most folks a lot longer than "a couple of days" to master - this isn't a video game, after all!

yes, dont give up, to truly hover you need to make it a 'motor skill' where the signels just bypass the brain and you dont even think(kinda like breathing, or blinking) but enable for this to happen you have to do ALOT of practice!

ive seen afew people come on here surprise how much there hands were moving on the radio! LOL

I agree, lots of practice.also make sure your contoller is calibrated properly in the sim.it will make it harder to learn if you are having to hold in stick for an untrimmed machine.

04stangman--
well, you didn't fill out your bio, so how is your flying off the sim (on helo)?
Or are you sim only at this time! IF you are sim only, focus on the basics... Stick control! IF your flying (?) let us know what your flying and we can help you out! (like expo or ATVS etc!)
As far as your question "Hovering, Am I Retarded" ---NO, just hang in there and keep practicing on your sim or heli. Good luck you will get it, the trick is to stay with it......

Definately lots of practice. Try to anticipate the helis movements and only make small corrections. You want to be able to correct the motion before the heli gains to much momentum. Picture balancing a ball on your fingertips. Its almost like driving a car with the steering wheel constantly moving but its so small and unoticeable that the entire car is not jerking around. Its more in the feel than anything else.

I found it very helpful to read the Army manual on helicopter flight.
Also, talking with a couple of full sized pilots for the basics of the who, what, and most important the WHYs of helis. There is a bunch of them!
Oh yea, practice.

Something to remember, is that every stick input you put into the radio, you have to take out of the radio.
I'll leave it to you to figure out what that means. Soon, it will click.

It takes time.
You'd be surprised. Some of the "Elite Veterans" and "Key Veterans" and all them on RunRyder can't really hover either.

hell, I cant hover nose in upright to save my life.

Time on sim is invaluable. I brought my laptop into work to let some of the "REAL" pilots give it a try. It was sure good for a laugh.

It is most deffinatly not as easy as one might think, BUT it is not impossible to learn either. With some patience and persistance you will get it.

Also the sim is a lot of fun to play around with but try to devote at least 5 minutes or so to serious learning. after that play around all you want.

Eny fule kno yoo don't spel it lyk that ....its " NARTZY "

And, yes, some of us still can't hover with any semblance of control, even after a couple of years .....but the "flights" are pretty good (though expensive) fun.

G3 makes it affordable!

Heli's are NOT easy to fly. It takes time to just learn to hover. Eventually it'll just click. Hang in there...

Hey man try this it works for me when you start up the game and you have the heli in front you go to the simulation tab at the top and go to settings a small window will open up click physics and adjust ur physics down this will slow the heli and make it less sensistive to stick movement, and as you better your self adjust higher.

breaking things comes later, when you fly the real deal. Thats when you realize that the sim is a piece of cake and alot cheaper.

Just take your time and practice, practice, and some more practice never hurt anyone and in no time you will figure it out.
Good Luck and make sure you always enjoy it or it can get frustrating.

Dude,

I spent 3 months on hovering, so if you're retarded, what that makes me? Only difference is I didn't have a SIM back then, only on the heli and I tried to not crash

Cheers bro, you're doing well.
