I did my first backward and forward flips today, what a rush. I have been flying outdoors for about two weeks now. Ya, you read that correctly, I learned flying indoors with an AXE CP and of course a sim. The AXE is a piece of ..... so I got a Trex 450 SE V2. So much difference.

The flips were not that clean, but successful. I seem to have an issue with moving the rudder during the flips. Maybe because I was shaking like a leaf and my heart was racing? Or do I need to tighten the stick drag or it comes with practice? It also sinks when in the inverted stage. I wonder why that is?

The bottom line is having fun.

sweet!! i love the rush we get when gettin' something new!!

the sinking inverted:
a. check your pitch with a pitch guage to see if you have equal positive and negative
b. give it a negative bump on your stick as your coming over

.....sold his soul for flip and roll.....

I am also having the same probs with the rudder, and was thinking of adding a bit of expo to the rudder control, but I can't work out whether this will effect the heading hold gyro settings or not, so I am a bit reluctant to try it.

The losing height as it comes over the top, I also bump the collective and this seems to work ok. So give it a try. I was also shaking after my last attempt, as the first time I tried it the heli veered off to the right and I completely lost it for a moment or 2.

Have fun

Good luck

That's what matters most, success.

Shaking like a leaf can lead to small unwanted inputs.

Congrats on your flippage.

The losing height as it comes over the top will go away after you find where the sweet spot is for hold inverted. try holding for a split second inverted to find the sweet spot.. but do it up high.

Hey I didn't ask for this fetish.!!!But I'am sure paying for it....

Adding expo to the rudder won't hurt anything. Heck i run 80% on my rudder just for that reason. If i need full rudder it's still there.

Man, i was in your exact position a while back.
It's such a rush when you flip it right back after a sucessful inverted hover, sometimes i was shaking so much i hardly could land it..

Expo on your rudder channel won't mess with your heading hold, i'm running about 30 percent on my 450 (gy401, 9650).
You may also want to check your gyro gain, having it to low may cause your heli to rotate a little while flipping.

Another thing worth checking when you are starting to fly inverted is your center of gravity, having any trim to correct for shifts in cg in normal hover will cause you alot of headache when flipping to inverted..

Hope this helps, good luck with your inverted flying

Great job!

Yep, the sinking on inverted is simply finding the "sweet spot" as someone mentioned. You need to add negative as it is coming around inverted....just enough to stop it from sinking, but not too much to where you "throw" it up when inverted.

Good luck!

I'm new to flips too so take this at face value, but I found I can keep my overall "shape" alot better if I purposefully move a foot or 2 foreward or backward on each flip. I noticed when I watch the szabo vids that he's got so much style it looks like the things sliding down a ramp each time. I tried it this way first on the sim (as opposed to flipping stationary without any up down or foreward back) and it seems to help out alot with the overall control. As I've been going now in real life the flips seem to get smaller and smaller and thier shape is getting quite nice. Basically what I'm trying to say is, if you break the flip down into certian movements at certian points by basically doing very very small loops, it's easy to learn when you have to give it collective and when to give it elevator. I have alot easier time breaking it down into steps than trying to learn the whole movement at once.

with 2 ears and 1 mouth you should listen twice as much as you talk
