It don't matter, the worlds gonna end in 2012 anyway.....so it is said.

But actually, I don't think it will get that high. The economy won't support $7.00 a gallon.

I could see that happening. The economy can support $7 a gallon but what it wont support are huge ass SUVs and trucks.

Get a life? How the hell do you fly a life?

It's not the world that's going to end in 2012.
Thats a misinterpretation.
It's the age of aquarius that ends in 2012.
2nd
Oil will be 200 a barrel long before that, then its going for 300.

What I think..

I think the progections are right, but not because I'm a doomsdayer or anything of a sort.
The fact is, gasoline, in the US, continues to be a FANTASTIC DEAL even at $3.50 per gallon. I know, you hate me. Read on.
What else can push 3000 pounds, 25 miles, for this price? Not human labor. Not even burro's or mules. The fact is, petroleum was devalued for so long that people just become complacent about wasting it.
One of two things will cause the price of oil to drop. Either they will find a whole lot of it, (unlikely) or people in the US will start driving smaller vehicles and mopeds.
The automakers typically take several years to adapt to changes in market demand and there has been little change as of late. Demand must fall before price will, simple as that.

True
If you look at what gas cost in 1955 and what wages were ...

Gas is cheaper now, not keeping up with pay and cost of living.

fwiw..

Whole thing wrong with the price vs. supply argument is that our economy was built with and grows on cheap energy. We are experiencing unprecedented price increases, caused by poor management of our resources by the govt, and artificially high oil prices caused by speculation. My guess is that the oil cartel is bidding the prices up with money we pay for inflated fuel prices..While other technologies exist, pressure from the environmental lobby would prevent their development, as the goal of the environazis is the reduction of society to a "Green" Amish-like existence.
Don't even get me started on the ethanol scam.

@drdot

I absolutely agree with your remarks about the ethanol scam. I am consistently amazed at the large percentage of the population that is unaware that it takes more gallons of petroleum, a higher energy fuel, to produce ethanol, a lower energy fuel. Not to mention the huge amount of CO2 that the yeast contribute to the atmosphere in the process.
I don't agree wih the idea that speculation is part of the problem. The larger part of the issue, aside from world wide demand, is the rapidly declining US Dollar. Driven down by low interest rates aimed at propping up an economy that cannot exist, long term.

I've listened to the opinions of numerous economists on the spec issue...A number agree with me, a number don't...My suspicions are fueled by the extremely sharp pike in oil currently, which was preceeded by a smaller spike about 8 mo to a year ago...Testing the waters, I suppose...A greater paranoiac than myself could imagine govt. collusion; a "tax" on the windfall profits being a method whereby wealth is redistributed without resorting to further income tax increases...Hurts the same, but the rabble will accept that with less grumbling...
As far as ethanol goes, anyone with a high school education in chemistry can see the issues...Where does that leave the govt. wonks? I thought these people were educated...

Gasoline is up 25% since January 1st! If this continues that would put gas at $4.38 by September 1st and 5.47 by January 1st 2009. Our economy can not withstand energy costs that high. We are either headed for the worst recession in world history or prices must be stabilized and go down for the economy to recover.

Oil is up 28% since January 1st also. That puts oil at $195.31 a barrel by January 1st 2009. Lets hope that these amounts aren't reached.

When all else fails BUY MORE AMMO!!
