Scale Model RC Helicopters > Struggling with the TT MDD530 undercarriage??

The air turns blue when people are fitting the undercarriage to the Raptor 50 in the MDD530 body shells. The most frustrating part is locating the bolts through the rear skid crossbrace and then into the chassis. What helped alot was to lightly chamfer the chassis hole with a 10mm drillbit to give a lead-in then superglue the 20mm socket-head bolt to the hex. driver. This gives a lot more stability while you are lining things up, then once it is tight a quick wiggle will break it free. It is well worth the effort as these bodyshells look superb in the air especially the new Squirrel which I flew for the first time tonight. I should have it at the Vario fly-in at Skelmersdale on Sunday all being well.

the other way on the md500 body is to drill a small hole on the body to allow your screw and allen key to fit up to the skid mounting , if you drill the hole in the correct place nobody will see it in flight
and no more hassle getting the rear bolts in and out

Another thing that is very helpful is to pre-thread the holes where the bolts that hold the aluminum strut to the plastic brace (to which the mechanics bolt). These are a PITA to get going because they are right at the edge of the fuse.

As mentioned, chamfering the holes in the frame also helps a bunch!

One poster actually used studs mounted in the frame, but I would think that would be difficult to maneuver into position.

One of my major complaints about this kit is that the screws that hold the whole thing together are machine threads into plastic. You have to take it apart occasionally for maintenance, and you can only screw a bolt into plastic so many times before it strips out...which one of mine has...
