Blitz Helicopters Avro 90 > Phasing Ring

Went to fly at lunch time and noticed the swash or washout making a rubbing noise when moving the stick up and down. I found one of the pins was tight against the washout and then saw that the phasing ring was cracked on both sides on the top of the set screws. Looking at the ring and the location of the set screws, the holds were tapped off center not leaving vary much meat on the top. I'm sure I caused this by tightening the set screws, but don't think they would have cracked if the holes would have been tapped in the center of the ring. It wouldn't hurt a thing if the ring were wider, then there would be more metal above and below the set screws. If it were made out of steel, would be even better and couldn't possibly add that much weight. Motion Unlimited doesn't have any in stock, so I've resorted to a Hirobo phasing ring from Ron's HP South.
The pic of the phasing ring on the Motion Unlimited site, even shows the holes off center. Someone might bring this to Blitz's attention, be interesting to see what they have to say about it.

Stanc, This happened to me only a few a days ago, it occurs when you overtighten the Grub screws. Because there at 4mm grub screws they only need to be lightly tightend.

I had a word with Neil at Blitz and he explained they do not need to be overtighten. Also the holes for the screws are actually centered because of the small recess in the bottom of the phase ring.

Here you can clearly see the recess mentioned aboved.

When you take the recess into account the grub screw is actaully perfectly centered .

And this was the result of my overtightening.

So just be careful on your next one, they are 4mm so dont need alot of force behind them .

I see that they are in the center. Like I said I know I cracked them from over tightening the grub screws, but that isn't hard to do when you think about what the phase ring is doing. It is just natural for me to make sure bolts and set screws are tight. I'm going to try the Hirobo one for now so I can fly this weekend and may just leave it, except that it is Blue anodized. Maybe Buzz will get some parts in soon and want have to worry about using something else.
