e-Align T-REX 450-500-600 > T-REX 500 Trex 500 essential upgrades

I took the plunge and bought the trex 500. It'll be here any day now.
Anyway, i'm hoping some of you experience pilot can help me out on advising some of the essential upgrades that show true value in flight performance.
Weight is my primary concern and i don't mind sticking with plastic parts.
I want to get the upgrades and install it while i assemble the kit from the start, so i don't have to worry about gutting the heli again later to install another upgrades.

thanks

Torque Tube. It should do away with static concern. Torgue tube will be less overall drag on the system but in a crash your most likely looking at a higher repair cost.

There are many flying stock without issue and heli is holding up well...Spend your money on some good lipos.

no offense, but torque tube is probably out of the question right now. mostly because of the part support for it isn't widely available. some common parts, like the gears and torque tube are non standard.
however, i can understand it does offer better autos and smoother stransmision performance.

thanks

None taken.

In that case buy it and fly it. Metal arms, metal bearing blocks, metal tail ,etc.. are all not necessary. Spray the belt and hope, or do the grounding mods.

Actually I am kidding. I love my 500, it is the be-all end-all heli for my tastes.

No upgrades needed? This is great....well, also i could understand that probably because it is base on the proven engineered design of the trex 450se v2 and the trex600.

but seriously, i'm still a junky when it comes to eye candy. So i'll be getting an upgrade every now and then as a treat.
Pretty soon my trex500 will be "obese" with all the metal blings. Hehehe.

thanks all.

I just got finished building my GF version last night. Just waiting on servos for the maiden. It goes together quickly and easily and is just like the 600N IMO. It builds almost the same.

The parts in the tail needed full disassembly and rebuild - ALL RTF bits do from Align. Anything they have pre-assembled, take it apart, clean it, lubricate it if required and then Loctite it back together. Other than that it looks to be a fine ship and based on one I flew before, it's a weapon.

Enjoy.

Jagnz,
does your kit came with the foam blade holder. The foam piece that mount on the boom and support the blade when its folded back.
I should have asked this question sooner before i checkout that last order. I forgot to get one.

500 upgrades

IMO, the only part worth replacing are the 2 canopy mounting posts...........helidirect has metal ones with a hole drilled thru the center so you can easily tighten or loosen them by inserting a small screwdriver or whatever and turning it. The two included with the kit are plastic and a real pain..............My new 500 has no upgrades though and flys perfect...........I have been to some big fly-ins and have met no one that has had a problem with the belt generated "static" we all read about on the heli sites and tail wags...............all 500 owners I've have been very pleased and same for me. I have always put tri flo oil on the belt and also on my 450 after every couple flying sessions using this same oil on the swash and tailgear..........never had a problem . I think this static thing is blown all out of proportion. No one who I have spoken with or myself has encountered it.

Yup, all the 500 kits have them. I agree, the canopy posts are rubbish.

how about this mod. have any of you tried this feathering shaft sleeve. how about those dampers, do they last longer than the stock dampers.
i though a free floating axle is bad for thrust bearings in hard 3d maneuvers. the raptors have the center pin, the synergy have the center sleeve, what else...but anyways, that should prove a point.

perhaps i could use some shrink tube and try it this way first instead. but i'm very interested in those dampers. perhaps one day infinavation will produce some after market dampers for trex500.

The new K&B ones are out, and I hear they make the machine very crisp. They have a big lip on them to fit up in the head, but I hear the machine does the front to back shimmy in a an auto.

Get a torque tube so that the worrys of static are not haunting you. Grab some food grade silicon spray. Spray some in the cap and use a cotton swab and apply to the belt.

oh yeah, i see 'em. they're at readyheli. i also see some replacement parts for the torque tube while i was there. very nice indeed. but too bad they're out of stock on every parts for the torque tube.

moreover, i'm searching around to find as much resource as i can about the ESD issue people are having with their trex500.
what intrigue is how many peoples got so excited about the ESD issue on their trex500. it is a problem that plague all belt driven tail going waaayy back.
on my logo 10, i just ground the boom to the battery "-" and it is cured. but proper grounding should be taken on every belt driven transmission anyway.
but maybe the trex500 has a newer source for this ESD, and maybe grounding the boom is just not enough.

The_Widowmaker,
i take back what i said about the torque tube. although belt driven transmission is more practical and cheap to fix, plus also quiet. but since i don't crash a lot, i prefer a piece of mind when i fly.
