I have started my Ion-X2 V-bar conversion. This is my first flybarless heli and so far I am pretty stoked. It seems to be going well so far.

I would like to thank MrMel for all of his research and his help so far. This is going to be an amazing project!!

I will post pics tomorrow. Hope you guys dig it!

I'm absolutely loving mine! I also followed Mr. Mel's advice which led to great success from the very first flights. Taking off the heavy duty MA flybar dropped 7 oz., almost half a pound! You can really feel the extra performance, and it's kind of cool that it's quieter w/o the flybar.

I've been having a great time over the last couple of weeks with my 10s Single-Stage (10:1) with Actro 32-3. I'm using the Helicommand Rigid system and it seems to be working very well. I also followed Mel's excellent setup tips, like raptor metal grips and brought the servo links in a bit (from 19.5 to 15mm)to improve torque and resolution.

The total flying weight w/2x5s Evo25 3700 packs (and PowerJazz esc) is 4.30kg (9.5 lb). Only 2-300g more than most Razors I've seen. With 14 deg pitch and 10 deg cyclics this heli is ballistic and more agile than my Trex600. I can hardly wait to install an Actro 32-4 and try it on 15s!

Like Fritts says, the flybarless Ion is VERY quiet, esp w/Radix 690's. You almost need the bark and bite of V-blades to hear the darn thing!

Fun stuff.

Cheers,
Tom C

Here you go! Be sure to read all the way through. His final solution using QUK Raptor 90 grips really tightens it up.

Well kids... Performed my first ever Flybarless flight. HOLY CRAP!!!

I love this thing!! Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined my X2 could get any better. I was dead wrong. I still have some fine tuning to do and a few questions to post in another thread that I will link in a sec.

This is my current set-up:

MA Ion-X2
Actro 32-3
PowerJazz ESC
V-Bar
9452 on cyclic
BLS251 on tail (really, really nice)
Rx power is a TP 2s 2100 Pro-Lite
Align 6v reg w/ step down
AR7000 and DX7 (awaiting 12X)
10s Evo 20 4350mah, 5mins hard flight
10s TPX 5000V2, 5mins hard 3D (totally sick!)

This is hands down the greatest rig I have ever built of flown. I love it. Thanks to my wife, and everyone who helped with this mess.

Here are some pics

Hope you dig 'em!

I keep thinking how can these helicopters fly any better and then something better comes along. I think my spectra g flies great the way it is but now it looks like this is something new that will actually make it fly better. Nice looking heli.

I am using the newest Mikado swash driver. I paid 59USD for it from Esprit Models. It works stellar and is exceptionally well made.
