| Mel,
I put my 10s Single-Stage Ion-x on a similar flybarless diet as well. I'm using a Helicommand Rigid but have used your tips (Raptor metal grips, mikado swash driver, and brought the servo links in from 19.5 to 15mm for better torque and resolution from my 9252's).
I replaced the landing gear with ones from the Razor (same as the new ones in the Ion-x2 kits I think). I just got the CF landing gear that you have from Esprit and they are ~20g lighter than the Razor's, and look pretty nice as well. I'll probably try them if the Razor gear fails.
I had already added ~20g by doubling up the bottom motor plate (MA124-24). This really stiffened up the Actro motor mount and reduced main gear wear. It also helped stiffen up the Ion frames a bit too.
All up flying weight, less flight batteries, w/Actro 32-3, PowerJazz esc, Align 6A reg w/evolite 2s-2100 pack, stock Ion-x canopy w/decals and painted windscreen (only weighs ~115g, my nicely painted canopy is ~40g heavier), 690 Radix blades is 3.30kg.
With 2x5s Evo25 3700 packs, total flying weight is 4.30kg (9.5 lb). This is only 2-300g more than most 10s Razors I've seen.
With +/-14 deg pitch and 10 deg cyclic this 10s heli is ballistic, and more agile than my 10s Trex600. Even with this extra performance, I'm getting ~10% longer runtimes.
Once I'm 100% happy with my Helicommand Rigid settings I've got a nice new Actro 32-4 max ready to install to try all this on 15s. I might wait until the MA Bandit 111t maingears are out next month to get a better 15s ratio.
Mel, thanks for all your help on all this flybarless stuff.
Best cheers, TomC
