I am thinking of picking up an electric heli.....i have no idea what to get, I know that i do not want to get a piccolo or a hornet, i want to get full 3D out of it. Any thoughts on the Voyager E?

Also, are there any good electric heli web sites?

Thanks for everyones help.

You should look into the Logo 10 or 20 they rock and do 3D... You can look at rc-direct.com or my web site for the link....

I don't understand why you say you have no idea what to get.
You posted the same question before here and you got 15 answers.

Hey boyse,

I didn't mean it like that. I was genuinely curious about that. I know he's one of the cool guys here.

There are a few electric helicopters out there, but the main choices are the Eco 8, the Voyager, the EP concept, and the Logo line. I own an Eco 8, and am running it on a brushed motor, but if I had to buy a 3D machine, it would be the Logo. I've heard that the voyager is a rugged little machine, but the weight is a little higher than most electrics. My Eco is a very fragile machine, and I was using the Magnetic Mayhem motor in it, but it did not have enough power to do aerobatics or any 3D with the eight cell battery. I've since switched to a hotter motor to try to increase rotor speed, bit haven't given it a try yet. The Eco as a stock kit flys well, but it could use a lot more bearings. If you are serious about flying 3D with an electric, get a machine that is built for it, which is the Logo. I am currently running the trinity D4 motor, but would advise a brushless set up, as the motors wear out if you fly a lot. The ezone is a great place to find out more.

Thank you Don, your post was very informative. i have been going back and forth between teh Voyager adn teh Logo 20, I know they should not be compared but iwas not quite sure what i wanted. i think i am going to go with the voyager, becuse it looks like it can do some mild 3D, and it is a bit cheaper. If i really like the Electrics maybe ill get a Logo at that point. Not to mention the VOyager is much much cheaper, adn the parts seem to be easier to find at my local store. Is there a setup that you suggest that i run with it? I was going to toss in a GY-401/9253, and 9202 servos. How does the stock motor and the speed controller hold up. If upgrade to a fancier motor do i need a new speed controller too? Thanks Again.

Since you live in Southern California you should try to go this weekend to the Mid Winter Electrics. It's the largest electric gathering in the USA and you'll be able to test-flight all the electric helis you want.

I agree that the Logo line is a lot of money to pay for an electric helicopter, that is why I bought the Eco, as it flies well for the price. I know from experience that a lite electric helicopter will fly a lot better and longer than a heavy one. I think that the 9202 servos as well as the 9253 in the tail are a bit much for that helicopter, as you don't need all the torque that they produce in the Voyager. I am running futaba 3101 servos on the cyclic, and the GY401 gyro, with a hitec hs 81 servo on the tail. The hs 81 is just a tad slower than the 9253, but works well with the gyro. Save those heavy servos for your glow helicopters. As far as the motor and speed controller go, I think the stock motor is fine for general flying, but I'm not sure about 3D. The guys at the ezone can help you on this more than me, as this is how I found the right motor- speed controller for the Eco. Good luck, you will like the cleanliness of the electrics.

The Voyager is not cheaper than the LOGO 10 IMHO, having owned both. The stock motor is basically a throw-away item because you would need a brushless motor to get decent performance. Still, you would have to take extreme measures to get around its weight problem and have a light feel in flight. Just for laughs, look up the cost of a Voyager tail rotor grip. The LOGO 10 is MUCH nicer.

Cheers!

Have you looked at the Joker? I know less than nothing about electrics but i didnt see anyone mention it. It looks pretty nice. There is a write up in the Feb-02 MHW mag. Take a look.

If SoCalHeli is buying a Voyager because it costs less than LOGO 10 (I question that), then I don't think that you should torture him with a picture of a Joker

The costs involved in buying and charging a few 30 cell packs put it in a different league. The "charging" aspect involves an expensive, but very nice, high-end charger and a huge charging battery. I'm jealous of folks with nice big trucks and room to carry a second battery under the hood. Charging and maintaining a big charging battery is a minor irritation for me and I only fly with 24 cells at most. A heli that flies nicely with only 12 cell packs is handy.

Cheers!
