I've been renewing my relationship with my CX-2 lately. Suddenly I've lost my fear of it, and have been flying the rotors off of it outside.
If it's good & calm out, it's a lot of fun to take it out, and push it's limits some.
I've heard people on here talk about blade strikes with these, where if you push them to hard, the blades strike each other and get short really quick! This usually ends with the Heli falling from the skies.
Well.. I was out today, and having a ball with it. It had picked up some good speed, and I cranked it around to bring it back with a combination bank, and tail turn. I guess I pulled it around to hard, and I heard the "thwack, thwack, thwack..." as the blades hit. Then it stared to fall. I figured that was then end of that. But then it recovered. It was shaking really bad, but still flying.
So I brought it in, and checked it, and flybar was a pretzel, but the blades were intact. On closer inspection, I found the marks on the lower blade where the flybar had contacted it!
I knew you could hit the blades, but I didn't think the flybar would go far enough to smack the lower blade.
Guess it will. lol
It's one to keep in mind. I guess I'm pushing it as far as it will go.
Helicopters don't fly, they beat the air into submission. |
