e-Align T-REX 450-500-600 > T-REX 500 NEU Motor for the 500 1905 1.5Y

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have been using a Neu 1905 1.5Y 1350KV motor in my T-rex 500 for about 2 weeks now...Although I only have about 20+ flights, it's turning out to be an awesome motor. It's a bit lighter than the Scorpion, but much wider, so a little tweaking needs to happen to install it...I took some pics, but still have to upload them. Basically you have to pull the bottom plastic plate which takes about 30 seconds, then you have to grind out the inside portion of the motor mount where the shaft comes through. The Neu motor has a larger bearing housing, thus the motor mount needs to be opened by 2mm, again not much work. The next step, is either shaving a small amount off the frames where the top portion of the motor hits, or you can do what I have done temporarily and that's to simply stack two motor mounts, lowering the motor so it does not hit the frame...Again, I will try to get some pics soon....Now the good stuff....The motor, sounds much different than the stock and Scorpion motors, it's more turbine-like. I gained 90 rpm worth of headspeed and an additional 200-300 mah flight time. I have done a bunch of Eagletree testing, and the motor pulls the same amps as the Scorpion as far as max and average, but seems to be more efficient, as I am using 200-300 less mah. The power is awesome too, the Neu 19xx series motors are known for their torque, thus this motor does not bog at all. My buddy and I did 5 side by side full pitch climbouts both with the exact same setup, except his had a Scorpion 3026-1210 and mine with the Neu......there was no contest at all, mine blew right past his every single time. I even swear that the heli feels smoother....I even let my buddy fly mine and he agreed that it does have a bit smoother feel to it......This is an awesome motor that I must say is just like the other Neu motors out there....I forgot to mention that I am running this motor on 8S but with the smallest pinion of 12 tooth...The great thing about this motor is that you can run it on 8s or 6s....Running it on 6s will give you much more options as far as pinions go. I must also mention that I have over 150 flights on my Scorpion of which I feel is an awesome motor with tons of power....However you will notice the difference between the two right away....I have also ordered a 1509 2.5Y that should work very well also. This one should work with the Jazz as the 1905 series does not, thus you have to use the Castle or the Align....Once I get the 1509 I will post my findings.....

Sounds cool! Upload your pics when you can. I'd like to see how big that is and how much modification you needed for the motor. I'm personally happy with my 6s 3026 1400 motor which is apparently the most powerful/efficient Scorpion motor for the 500.

does the NEU motor pull too much current for the stock align speed control? are you running a separate BEC? Thanks again for the write-up. I will definitely consider this motor.

Hi Jack,

The sotck 500L lasted only 50 flights. I now run Medosa 36-50-1600 with 5S, better then the stock for sure. I could not get any recommendations from Steve for 5S setup, may be he is in the process of developing a motor for 400(s)mm blades. Since you already started 500 with Neu, any idea which Neu is better for 5S setup ? I am going to stay with 5S (3300), single pack for T500 and double packs for L10 (10S with Neu 1910-1.5Y).

Ok, here are some pics I took, not the best but a good idea of the size and fit.....In the last pic, you will see that I dremeled a small bit off the frame where the motor mount sits, thus removing the second motor mount I had previously installed....It took me less than 10 minutes to do....

Docjoe, I think you will find that the Scorpion 3026-1210 is even more efficient than the 1400 with the proper pinion....My friend was able to get and extra minute of flight time out of the 1210 on 6s compared to the 1400....The 1400 has great power, but you can gear the 1210 for the same power and it's more efficient....As for the Neu, it's even more effecient than the 1210....In regards to a good 5S motor I would go with the Neu 1905 1Y 2060KV on a 13 tooth pinion....

SpecialK, as far as a separate bec, yes I do run a separate bec, not only because I have to due to running an 8s setup, but because I do with all my helis....It creates less heat, and more reliability for a small cost...However I don't think you need to with the Align....As far as amp draw, even though the amp draw is much lower than what the Align is rated at, since I am running a higher voltage I would say it's hard to know if this motor will pull more amps than the Align esc can handle. However I would guess that since it's pulling the same amps as the scorpion that I was running that it should be very similar to the scorpion on a lower voltage....So I would imagine that it will work just fine....Hopefully this weekend I will be able to try this motor in a 6 cell setup, although I am confident that it will work very well.....

No problem....I am really happy with this motor so far, and I can't wait for someone else to try it so I can hear what they have to say about it....
