Century Hawk - Falcon - Raven - Predator > Spot the Problem!

I've been really unhappy with the tail lately. The bearing is coming loose on the torque tube and the nylon bearing/o ring assembly wants to roam around in the boom.

Anyone else had this problem?

As you can see, I reckon I was only a minute from disaster! This was on half a tank hover this morning.

Nope never had that problem but I only run the stock black tail boom though. A couple of people I know have had the purple ones you get from century break.

I witnessed This happen to Ravenhyper50

only he was still flying when he lost the rear half
it was a pretty cool autolanding he actualy saved his heli from total disaster. Found the shaft sticking out of the ground

He got rid of the aluminum boomclamp it kept cutting into the tail even after it was sanded and filed.

loctite the inner part of the bearing to the torque shaft.

if you don't mind using the horizontal fin just drill 2 holes on each side of the boom and bolt your supportrods there

never a problem since doing this never broke even after a couple of minor crashes

Got that virus as well. I'll never again use a CNC horizontal fin bracket. I was lucky I spotted it before it completely broke off.

What I do now is use the plastic bracket that comes with the Predator. It has a slightly wider ID so I wrap the boom with hockey tape.

DJDAZ, I don't mean to question this but my Raven is not together right now, those boom supports sure do look short to me, are you sure they are not the Hawk's boom supports,, or maybe the carbon supports are shorter,,

if they are short that is your problem !!

I have found a Raven photo, and yes that is your problem, the supports are too short !!

get longer supports and a new boom and your problem should not occur again,,

notice I said "should not"

perhaps you would have understood drill a hole in the horizantal fin on both sides of the boom.

and no I don't fly fast backwards

but you can always shorten the fin

Hey guys, thanks for the tips n replies.

Yes, the boom supports are shorter than the standard. I did the upgrade to the carbon supports but basically used carbon rod and made my own that came in shorter than Century's.

The CNC boom clamp is a Predator one. The guy at the LHS sold me the wrong one by mistake and as he didn't have any Raven ones, I adapted it. If you look at the photo you can see a thin rim where the clamp meets the boom where I have 'beefed' up the OD of the boom to make it fit.

I think the majority of the problems are coming from the TT and the bearing assembly. You can slide the TT assembly straight through the boom (it's like the o rings have no purchase or holding ability inside) and to make things worse the nylon assembly then slips off in flight leaving the bearing unsuspended. This is where I thing the vibe problems come from (as opposed to shorter boom supports or CNC clamp.

When the motor is turning the dogbones on the TT are in their nylon housings, but the rest of the tube is free to carry on like a wild thing!

I will try loctite to fix the TT assembly together and a new boom.
