| TrexRookieYou quote above in you post is not true here in Colorado. I have been around racing dogs for the past 5 years and I do not know of any dogs here in CO that have been put down because they did not win a race. If they grade off in their maiden races they are adopted out. Over the past 5 years the adoption kennels that I have been involved with and help with are very successful in finding homes for the dogs.
BTW a greyhound is a great dog and is much easier to take care of than most people think. They are very affectionate, good with kids, do not bark, and are kennel trained when you get them. Also the breading policy’s associated with greyhounds are so closely monitored that they very rarely have joint and hip problems that other breeds have - with a greyhound you are always getting a dog that came from two very healthy parents. I have had labs, a husky, ****zus, I also have a rat terrier and I must admit that my 2 racing greys are the best dogs that I have ever had...
The below link is the racing and breed data for one of my dogs that was a AA racer for a little bit. She ran over 150 races. I had to wait a year to get her:

This link is for my wife’s greyhound that sucked at running (She lost all 18 of her races and is still alive)

I do not want to get into the PC debate about weather or not its right to race the dogs. IMHO judging from the attendance at the local dog races socity as a whole is not accepting it as they use to so that is the best judge I guess.
I do know that if any of the dogs that I know got hurt or had to be put down I along with the trainer, track personal, kennel help, and the dog owner would all be sad. If you are around them you get attached to them!!
If horse racing is anything like dog racing then I am sure that all of the people who were around that horse on a daily basis are sad as well. Even the owner who may or may not have collected on an insurance policy...
