e-Century Hummingbird - Swift > Swift still glitching

I originally set up my Swift 16 with my DX6 and a AR6000RX and would experience glitching about 90 seconds into just hovering. I bought the bird used from a local friend and installed some needed parts.
Setup is as follows:
Century 550+ motor with 9T
HW Pentium Opto 60A ESC with 80A Burst
5/6V UBEC set at 5V
GY401 w/9254
TP V2 14.8V 3850mAh 4 cell lipo
Both ESC and BEC have ferrite rings installed

After experiencing a glitch with the DX6 that would swing the tail 45* to the right I thought maybe I was getting shadowing on the 2.4gHz RX so I swapped it out to a Futaba 6EXH and a R127DF RX. Hovering yesterday I experienced the same glitch with the 72mHz system. My flying buddy mentioned that possibly I was experiencing some static dishcharge from the belt running in the stock plastic tailboom. Is that a possibility? I can easily go back to the 2.4 system but I don't want to fly it too long on the limited range RX. I have plans to purchase a JR 9303 2.4 TX this summer when the jobs start rolling in again. Until then these are my only 2 radio options. Any ideas what I should be looking for? Is there something I can apply to the belt to possibly stop any static buildup? Anyone else experienced this problem?

That definitely sounds like ESD. Spray silicone lubricant on the belt and see if the issue continues.....Ron

I too had random tail swings on my Swift (with Spektrum radio gear). I grounded the tail boom to the negative lead of the ESC and also use silicone spray. No more tail twitches.

Thanks guys....... Grounding a plastic tailboom is something so new to me I would never have even thought of having to do something like that. I do have silicone spray, proper application would be to soak a q tip and apply it only to the outside of the belt or just pray it at both pulleys?

Mine was doing that. I repositioned the receiver as far away from the esc and bec as i could and installed ferrite rings and not a single glitch since and i don't have my boom grounded.and i'm useing 72 albeit it is a pcm receiver.I also repositioned the antenna as far away from the esc and bec as possible, and made sure it wasn't touching the frame or anything metal.

Mine is plastic.......... on heliworld.com the replacement boom is also plastic. http://www.heli-world.com/detail.aspx?ID=3767

I would go aluminum if one was available for it. I haven't flown the swift since the glitch but will be taking it out again this saturday. I will let you guys know how it goes, possibly take the vid cam and get another vid of it. The first glitching occured with the DX6 setup and I have a vid of that one here:

Same thing happens with the Futaba 6 EXH and the R127DF.

The replacement ones are aluminum. If the tail boom you have is plastic, something is wrong. The website says nothing about being plastic so I do not know where yours came from.....Ron

ALL tail booms for ALL Century heli kits were made of aluminum.

A number of years ago they offered some Carbon Fiber units as optional equipment. As they proved to flex more then the stock aluminum units under extreme piro loading, they were discontinued.

Like they say, it's aluminum.

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

how long ago did you purchase this swift?

she has the shakes from way when she first came out so now im suspecting the feathering spindle.

does it have a ball in the center of it and made of aluminum or is it all black of metal?

*tip...after spooling up full speed try tightning the main blades some more...this "sometimes" helps the issue but does not eliminate it.

i also noticed in video where tail twitched to the right a couple of times...was this you?

and yes...swift tail boom have been alum since its debut.

Wow......... I must be on drugs, my tailboom is aluminum. All this time i thought it was plastic. I want to apologize for my n00bish assumption that it was plastic. Thanks to all for correcting me and opening my eyes.
PP, I have yet to remove the grips and the feathering shaft but i did purchase the one that heliworld. Reinforced feathering spindle as well as a new rotor head and blade grips. I was waiting to change it all until I got some new thrust washers but with your comment i will go ahead and swap out the spindle now. I still have to order dampeners and thrust bearings as I want to change out the rotor head as well (already purchased). I also got the solid steel mainshaft because we did notice a very slight wobble at the top of the head when it was spooling down. My Swift has never liked spooling up or down on hard surfaces, grass or soft dirt or sand dampen the "shakes". I installed a set of Raptor .30 gear as the stock LG was even worse than what was shown on the video.
The "glitch only happened at the end of the vid, the other twitches are from my rudder inputs, I need to dummy down the piro rates for the tail. My TREX with a LT2100 is the same way, small movements........huge results.
I also have the 3rd bearing block upgrade but have decided to not use it until my flights are a bit smoother and glitch free. I will be taking it out Saturday for a shakedown test hover after checking the belt and lubing with silicone spray as well as the new main and feathering spindle.
Thanks again for the suggestions and much needed correction on the tailboom.

i found that the distance the gyro to ESC placement is very important.

when i started using spektrum technology, i forgot about glitches and wasn't taking it into account. the gyro does need to be isolated (including wires coming from the gyro.

do you have any pictures of your setup? hope my $0.02 helps

I will take some pics tonite while tearing down and reassembling. The gyro is placed acording to finless's build thread as well as the ESC, BEC and RX.

well, if you followed 'HIS' video, then you should be fine. i just have seen too many people putting esc/motor wires together with radio wires - and as mentioned in my prior post, i am also guilty of the same ...

that's the only thing i can think of, besides the possible static build - which have already been discussed

Yep - I keep my RX wiring as far away from the ESC and its' wiring as possible.
