Why not just replace the troops with humanitarian aid (food, stuff and people distributing it) for the same amount? Bet ya could have built a new house for just about everyone + fed them a long time. I'm as you know utterly naive, but I'm pretty sure even a muslim who had been helped out properly would not be easy to recruit for suicide bombings....

Well, it's worked really well in Africa, why not do the same in Iraq?

The warlords have been slaughtering the "humanitarians" in Iraq. The only way that will work, is if the humanitarians are guarded by armed troops. That is exactly what many of our troops are doing now. They are protecting the humanitarian efforts to build and rebuild hospitals, schools, markets and the infrastructure of Iraq.

There is always a risk involved in this line of work as it's often done in areas with a lot of internal conflicts. We have had peacekeeping forces in conflict areas for decades doing the kind of work you outline with only minor losses (I actually just hired a guys who have spent the last year in Afghanistan doing just this). I do think that if such work shall be done guarded by troops, then it'll have to be troops from other countries that they don't have such a grudge with...

The entire continent!

Much of the money and supplies given to help Africans have been stolen by corrupt African leaders. That stolen aid money helps keep those leaders in power. The aid that does get to the people undermines their ability to fend for themselves. The U.S. has given $600 billion in aid to Africa over the past 45 years, and over that time period there's basically been zero rise in living standards.

Unless the African governments allow their people opportunity to be educated and to build businesses, there is little hope that more humanitarian efforts will do much good. Africans are starving because their is no opportunity. Education, democracy and capitalism are the only things that will substantially improve Africa. All other efforts will have minimal impact and do very little good.

Though if you have done time in the military you'd probably say that everyone else is brainwashed because they don't side with you on the left.

I will ask again for you to prove your statement that the US was founded by Liberals. You said it, I have asked you THREE ties to back it up. Instead you start making insults, try answering the question.

It is a shame you cannot have ONE conversation in which you don't make lame insults. I don't see asking you to refrain from distractions and childish insults and to actually back up the things you say as "hysterical".
