hi guys i was flying my r90 today everything was going fine until suddenly the engine stopped in midair.landed ok but trying to start the engine with no go....i went home with my tail between my legs..i stripped the engine down tonite only to find the piston had scuffs on it and the barrel scraped.put it back together on the bence to test it,an nothing there is no compression i could easyly turn it with my fingers unlike before.and also will not start.2 day before i put in a new clutch liner and the compession was ok and no scuffs on the liner as i peeked in the exhaust outlet..has somthing fallen in to cause the scrapping,is it worth getting a liner and piston or a secondhand engine...i was thinking of converting it to a gasser but need to know if the power is still somewhat the same...man i am so p#$%#ed.its bad enough trying to run the dam thing.regards helinelly

You would be better off replacing the liner & piston then a used one
but also if your going to change it to a gaser do that, the choise is
yours good luck.

Sounds like you ran it lean and it scuffed. I wouldnt get so upset, just order the piston, ring and liner and get back out there and enjoy yourself.

thanks guys.

my engine was smoking abit so i turned my main needle in only 3/4 clicks.this must have been enough to scuff it like you say...i did not no that having it lean would cause this...but its just another lesson to contend with...thanks again guys.kind regards helinelly

It's has to smoke like it is on fire!!!!

Tune it by temp and performance, not by how much smoke it is making.

Just re-line/piston-ring. CCheck the bearings for quiet-smoothness.

I did a Forced Auto on my R90 last nite. The fuel line popped off my Cline regulator (very small fitting, not much for the fuel line to grab onto), I shouted "Deadstick!!!!".....as I was coming out of a loop....I went into Auto mode in my head and was able to set her down OK. Whew!!! First Forced Auto......I was shouting like a schoolgirl with my TX over my head.....WHOOOO HOOO!!!!

All that practice paid off.

Wanna hover??? Buy a helicopter.

nothing worse then a dead stick....everyone at my field keep saying my 90 was smoking to much..but i think it was just the fuel i was using..so i tweeked the motor for less smoke..and bang..should have stuck with my instinct...and like you said let it smoke...ps abet your heart was pounding after your auto...regards helinelly
