Beginners Corner > Weird Glitch problem...? Anyone experienced this

I changed my pinion gear this morning to gain some head speed and was going to go out to the field. I took it out in the yard to test the new pinion gear and the heli came to a hover normally a few inches off the ground then glitched and slammed down. I checked it over and just figured I bummped something so I took it back up to about 4 foot and it happend again. Just slammed straight down like I lost power but almost like it had negative pitch applied (I was flying in normal mode with just a degree or so of neg. pitch at bottom throttle). Snapped my landing gear in half, everything else seems fine. So I'm out for a few until I get new landing gear, I'm going to re-check everything and put the other pinion back on and see what happens. Any ideas?

Heli: Trex 450
Frame: G10 Super Frame
Radio: DX7 w/AR6000 receiver

Motor and Speed control are stock Align parts.

Thanks.

definitely an unusual glitch...where all cyclic servos act in unisome.

and it seems it was never an issue before.

The only thing I can think of at this time is that it most likely went into failsafe...what are your settings for such?

Did you by chance re-route any of the motor wires or any other wires to a different location?

A similar thing happend to me, then I noticed I had routed the 3 motor wires on the other side....was next to the ESC/gyro wires. Once I routed them back to the original side, all was fine.

I'm not sure about the fail safe, I'll check that out. I also have to check on the wiring. I thought I put them in the same location but I will check to make sure. Thanks for the ideas.

what power sorce are you using ? align bec/esc ? if so what servos are u using and what gyro ? What is ur servos/gyro draw ? poss under power to servos try hooking up a battery pack to ur rx and try that. Servo tend to loose holding when lacking power.

HI,had that same thing happen to me one time.chack the wires were they are soldered at the esc.you are lucky,i broke a lot more than the landing gear.i was a little higher though.one of the main power wires going to the motor came loose on mine.

I will bet you it is a problem with the ESC. I recently bought a used Trex 600 with a CC 110 Speed controller. When I went and picked the heli up, the man I bought if from was going to test fly it for me. He spooled it up and was about 10 feet up when it lost power and came down. However he auto rotated it to a smooth landing. Checked the wires, tried again, same thing. Ended up the ESC had reset and needed to be reprogrammed. Basically the fail safe was set to low.

The only thing is I am not real familiar with the Align ESC. Can you program it yourself? The Castle Creations you can program either via a computer hook up or via the TX.

Sorry I cant offer a solution but I just wanted to tell you my similar experience as it sounds like the same thing.

If its slamming down, you aren't just losing power (though it might seem like a slam if you do lose power, so be sure). The Gyro might pick up Rf noise like static from the belt/pulleys and the internal noise might glitch the servos. I've had that on PPM systems- with a 401. I dont' know about the 2.4gHz in that regard. But you are running higher headspeed now, so this will bring on the static buildup/discharge.

Else, the above mentioned discharge is making the receiver go to failsafe as pointed out above, and the failsafe settings might just be full neg pitch or therabouts. Could be worth checking/setting to something more benign no matter what.

Never, ever, ever, ever give up.

Doesn't sound like fail safe to me...

I've seen my fair share of rex's but never worked on one, You sure nothing is sticking or hanging up in the head? No loose collars allowing the main shaft to move up and down? I've had wierd pitchiness in the past and end up finding some vertical play in the main as a cause.

I didn't find anything in the head, but as always I could have missed something. I'm not only loosing pitch though, the whole thing dies and drops like a rock. At least that is what I think is happening.
