IF one were to pick up a bare bones heli. Or maybe got a deal on a heli sans-electronics..
What would be a good compromise between cost, and performance for a radio?

Or.. is this just a Spektrum vs Futaba question?

If I jump on-line and start looking at heli radios, there are hundreds of them, and to many servos to count. Where do you start to untangle that and find what you need.

For arguments sake, we'll say I'm outfitting a (lesser expensive) 450 class heli. (no Trex's here..) Or maybe I found a B400 with no radio type of heli. What radio & servos should I be looking for?

Mind you, I'm not going to be doing any competition class flying, so I don't need super, mega fast, ultra what-ever stuff. Just the garden variety, utility, everyday flier type of equipment.

THanks!

A Spektrum DX6i, and the Align 9X servos.

You can buy the DX6i NEW, WITH RX, for $160.

And the 9X servos are something like $10-$14 each.

The older I get, the shorter my attention....... Oh look. A shiny penny..

Airtronics RDS8000 is a great radio no matter what it costs. It's just an added bonus that they are selling it at a killer price.

I agree to,Ive been threw 3 radios and just got a 2.4g 9303 and wished I done it sooner than later. But some people worry about
price and thats O.K.,then go with the DX6 or DX7 and both are
very good radios.

I wouldn't say the DX6 is a good radio. Maybe the DX6i but not the plain DX6.

Bare minimum would be the DX6i, then DX7, and if you want a really, really nice one get the 9303/2.4 system.

I'm not even gonna get into the higher end radios but there are several of them too......

I strongly agree!

2Old2Fly,
Helis come and go but a radio can be with you for a long time. This is one aspect of the hobby that I certainly won't go cheap on. However, I understand if you just need something to get you by. In that case, In the efforts of minimizing RF hits...NEVER go anything less than a PCM. Selecting the brand is just personal preferences. Lots of good radios out there so do your homework. We are all here to answer any questions.

I would def go DX7...you'll eventually want to go 7 channel, trust me on this. Pay a bit more now and it will go much further.

Go as much and you can afford. I remember 10-12 years ago buying a JR 347 PCM and still have it. Paid more for the TX and then complete heli. Although now I have a JR X9303 2.4 Ghz and love it.
