e-E-Flite Blade CP CX 400-3D > Blade 400 3D So did E-Flight get it right with the 400

I started out on a blade CP, not to piss everyone off but it was a self crashing cheap piece of crash and trash.
I am hoping they got it right with the 400 because I lost faith in the E-flight heli's over the CP. The rest of there product line, airplanes, brushless motors etc. are great.
I have found the new 400 a tempting heli to own in the future and thought I would see what you guys think of it. My local Hobby shop had them for $399... even if you strip it for the DX6i radio and the gear its still gotta be worth that.

I to feel that the CP was not top notch. I almost gave up on heli's after the CP pro. I didnt get another heli til about a yr after that. MX450. I have been hooked eversince. Love me B400.

Yup, B400 gets my 2 thumbs up. I've heard nothing but bad reviews of the cp or cpp. I flew (if that's what you can call it) my father in laws a couple times and would certianly discourage anyone from owning one. And to think I was sooooooooo close to buying one once. Anyways, the b400 is great. I lost track of how many flights I have on it, probably getting close to a hundred. With only one crash due to dumb thumb. No "self crashing" feature on this eflite that's for sure. Highly reccomended!

What other RC heli experience do you have? I ask because I don't think the Blade CP Pro is any worse than other motor tail micro CP helis. Sure people can debate the details, but all helis in this class are relatively unreliable and difficult to fly compared to larger helis. However, even the Blade 400 or other larger helis will "self crash" after a few seconds without adequate piloting skills at the sticks. These helis won't fly themselves like a coaxial heli. Conversely most experienced heli fliers will find a BCPP pretty easy to fly, at least for basic hovering and flying around. So I wonder if your expectations are realistic as far as how easy it's supposed to be to fly helis.

Sorry if you already know all this, but I just didn't want you to go buy a Blade 400 or similar and then be disappointed to find that it still "self crashes".

Yup, you're a much better pilot than I. I can do the doughnuts but they get to be quite out of shape after 2 or 3. Still practiceing. I did smirk to myself for a bit when it reminded me of a nascar race for a sec. Turning left anyone?

I agree with Dougs I have a Heli Max Axe cp and I find myself flying it more than my others because it is just so much fun I find myself laughing when I fly it and I can not say the same about the others I take them to serious and can not seem to relax as much

Trex 450, 600, Tiger 50 are my other Heli's. I also had a Logo 10 3D carbon. All of these are great Heli's. I picked up my friends Blade CPP and flew it around just fine until the 4 in 1 shut down and dropped it like a rock. Thats what I mean by they are "self crashing"... the 4 in 1's are junk, the tail rotor motor brushes don't last very long using the 11.1 lipo's. I have heard they are better than other heli's in there class which is a pretty scary thought. My point was that as a first heli, it sucked because not only was I fixing it from crashes at my own hand but then when it crashed because of chronic electronic malfunctions, it made it worse. Everyone I know who has owned one, threw tons of money into them "upgrading" them only to end up with a $800 blade CP... when they could have invested in a larger, easier to fly and more reliable heli.

Unreliable = self crashing. When I was a super noob I would often wonder if a crash was from something I did or the heli. Now that I'm more familiar with them I can think back and recognize what was what. When you're a noob though a self crashing machine should be the last thing on your mind. This is why the bcp or bcpp are bad for beginners. Basically trying to construe the point that the b400 is a much more reliable and easier to fly machine. Eflight IMHO did get it right this time.

I've had better luck with my blade cp than the 400, at least the cp doesn't strip its servos on command. The biggest fault of the cp was the main shaft that was made of cardboard, or at least that is the strength it seemed to have.

the CP is a very good heli out of the box, if you are complaining about it you probably haven't had experience with CP micro heli's, which are an entirely different bird than larger helis. I've got both a cp and 400 yet, and they both are flown on a regular basis. The cp is mostly indoor around the living room, and the 400 gets outdoor 3d.

I started on a BCP and too many times it malfunctioned...two main motor failed, three 4-1 failures, I lost track of how many tail motors prematurely wore out. This is back when they first came out and had know problems admitted by Horizon. It was frustrating while trying to learn. I find it interesting that its probably one of the first heli's bought by beginners. The Eflight S75 servo's are without a doubt a waste on any 400 heli, they don't center well and the gears are too fragile. They are reliable servo's and I like using them in my foamy airplanes but the weak gears are disappointing.I have had a few that had bad potentometer's straight out the package new that wouldn't center the servo horn.

CP and 400 3d

I started flying back in 1989. Had a GMP Cricket (fixed pitch). I spent over 1,000 on crash repair parts for that thing. Since, I've had two of the old Space Baron 20's, a Schluter Heli Boy, a second generation Kalt Space Baron, a GMP Competitor, and now I have a JR Venture 30, a Blade CP, and a Blade 400 3d.

All of the Horizon stuff has been great right out of the box. I will say that I tossed the Transmitter and reciever that came with the CP and installed an S-PCM reciever, and used my 8103 with it. I found that using 100% throttle with the little CP gave it rock solid control. I used stunt mode, set a near 100% throttle curve on stunt, and full range pitch control, and it works great for me. I've heard of others complaining of it's twitchness, and I believe it's just because the tail can't compensate fast enough.

But, the 400... wow. Did they ever get it right. I test hovered it today for a couple of minutes, got it trimmed, and it flies incredibly well. I've read the posts on the servos and wonder how these will hold up. I actually worked at Horizon in product support for about two years, so I know most of the guys over there. I'll get the skinny on it here in a couple of days. But, one thing I know... if there is a problem, they'll own up to it, and it will be made right. That's the way they are.

BTW, these ARE NOT for beginners. My suggestion for beginners... save yourself some cash. Everybody has a PC nowadays. Buy a simulator FIRST. My experience (BTW, I did not have one when I started flying.... wish I had...), if you can do it on the sim, you can do it with a properly trimmed craft. OH, I also did not have anybody to ask questions of when I started. I bought the lone GMP Cricket hanging from the ceiling at Slot and Wing in Champaign, and they even had to order a belt for it before I could try flying it.

Anyway... Cheers! and happy flying!

Here's the old Cricket, the old Kalt Baron 20, and the Schleuter Heliboy too. Good times!
