Finishing up Pantera # 2 and I am having some issues with the os 50 hyper. Unlike the one in my other Pantera this one is almost flooded with fuel at a full turn out on mixture when I am trying to start it. It turns like it is hydro locked almost. I am usin Johns Pro modeler muffler on this hyper. I can get it to idle but the fuel is just pouring our of the muffler after idling for a few minutes. Does this sound normal? Maybe I am just over precautious here but something just doesn't seem right. I really don't want a flameout from a burnt plug on her maiden.

A hyper will run ok on 2 turns out on the high speed needle and the low speed needle centered. It will be sloppy rich but will still not have fuel pouring out of it nor will it tend to hydrolock. If you are only 1 turn out and fuel is pouring out, something is really wrong, likley with the carb. If this isnt fuel and its simply oil, stop idling so much and go fly or dont start the thing until you are ready to fly.

No marty thisd is fuel- I have never seen anything like it. Does it matter which side of the muffler you use for pressure-top or bottom. I used the top port and capped the bottom one. At first I thought I had the throttle reversed and was trying to start at full throttle. Should I lean it down to where the fuel ceases? I don';t want to damage the motor of course but do recall reading where people have said the factory suggestion for the mixture can be off from motor to motor. Are there any things I can look for myself that could be simple fixes? I really don't want to have to pull this @#$%^ motor back out for a trip to hobby services!

Check the o ring on the needle valve. If it is cracked or missing there will be nothing holding the fuel back, also be certain you close off the fuel tube to the engine when fueling

Ok, if its definately fuel, pull your needle out and check the tip and the o-ring very carefully. They're cheap and easy to replace. In regards to muffler tap, you are doing the right thing. Use the top one so you only see pressure and not all that excess oil and gunk you'd be getting if you tried to use the bottom.

OK- Anybody got a description or picture of what the needle is supposed to look like for comparison? I always shut off the fuel before fueling so I know it is not that.

Just pulled the needle valve screw and the tip is not a perfect point. Should it be sharp like a needle on the tip? It has a flat end instead of a fine point. Looks like it is about a mm from being long enough for a perfect point. O ring looks fine on the needle screw itself.

Just pulled mine and it has a blunt tip as well. There are three other O rings in teh carberator that you could check. The only time I had a problem like this was when I was flying planks and the tank was too high and the fuel would syphon to the carb. You do not have a one way valve from the vent to the tank do you?

Are you fueling the ship using a three way fuel filter?
If so make sure you clamp the line to carb durring fueling.
Also. Do you have a header tank? Never had the problem you are having with all six Hypers. Check your O' rings on the needle.
Let us know how your doing.

I am clamping the line while fueling- It is a brand new motor and Pantera so this ha only been done once on this ship. I checked the oring on the screw itself but am not sure where the others are. Iam not running a header tank though. I am going to try some idleing tonight and see if I can get it worked out more. When I pulled my mix screw to check it I had it turned to 1/3 a turn to get it to not drool fuel from the pipe while idling. I will lyk what it does tonight. I am going to fly it tommorrow regardless! If i burn out the plug while breaking the motor in oh well. I also did put a new plug in it last night and that didn't change anything.

Problem Solved! Called hobby services on monday a.m. and they sent me out a brand new carb. Put it on tonight and she purrs like a kitten! Strange. I guess I can use the old one as a fishing weight or something. What really sucks is that I probably won't get to fly her until monday.
