what is the difference between the airplane version and the heli version, other than the smooth throttle and can it be remove from the airplane version?

Smooth throttle, and switch position. You can use either radio but heli flying is better with the switch position of the heli version.

Some people have posted explanations on how to move the switches and remove the throttle ratchet to make theirs into heli versions. If you already have one, it can be done.
