Aerobatic FAI F3C Contest > Question for FAI flyers with full fuselage

Hello peeps, for those of you who fly F3C with a ful fuselage do you line the fuselage with sound profing foam? If so where do you get it from and what is it like?

The reason I ask is I have just been to Maplin (UK version of radioshack) and bought some PC sound proofing sticky back foam. And I was wondering if there is anything that I should do to make sure it doesn't come off? Or indeed if the PC stuff will hold up to flying and nitro exhaust.

Si,
No, we don't use anything. Since it's totally enclosed, the sound stays inside. I 've used that stuff on fib canopies, no real difference. Fuselages are heavy enough w/o extra padding. My 2 Staysees are very quiet.

I use Hirobo sound proof sheet.

They are heat resistant too.

Thanks Night train, I will se how this sounds.

Yapjy, how do you cut the foam for a nice finish around the edge of the fuselage?

Hi There, i have two fully fuzzed helis and i use sound pads available from Macgregors. I use them only around the drive train and this works well. They are very sticky but i run some cyno around the outer edge aswell for reassurance. As you are in aberdeen, will you be going to the scot nats in june??

Si,
You didn't say what kind of fuse you have. The Staysee mounts on soft foam rubber dounuts. There is no resonance because it doesn't directly touch the helicopter anywhere! It doesn't buzz or vibrate. It just floats. Most others mount to the frame and yes cause noise. Let us know what fuse and how the soundproofing works out.

Initially I have a nova 3, so its not a full fuse. But I want to get a Black shark at a later date, although I like the sound of the staysee mounting.

I will hopefuuly go to the Nats if I can, will have to see what weather and woman say (wife).

JR Super Gracy

Hello,
No sound proofing used in my setup and its super quiet!!!
Butt Help needed for..........

Just fitted the JR super gracy fuse to my r90. It fitted like a glove, lotsa room for everything (extended radio tray to move 'c of g' forward).
The quality is amazing and thanks go to Masa at rc-champ in Japan.

On the first flight it was near perfect, except for the engine temp. This seemed a bit high and actually stopped after an auto while trying to re spool.
I'm using- ys90r, 20%cp/nitro, 7.9-1 ratio, enya 3, remote mixture servo, handmade enclosed shroud for head and maybe 1600headspeed(lotsa smoke too). Local temps around 20degC, just above sea level.
Engines being running sweet without fuse ie, never hot and lotsa power(bearing done 10 flights ago).
I richened it up and was slightly cooler but needs more airtime.
Should i try enya 4? more holes in fuse? a seperate pc fan? more nitro? head shims? any more suggestions.....

regards,
David
