Fair point. I thought that too but there is only so much adjustment you can get with the engine mounting - line up the mounting with the frame holes - there is no extra adjustment. I make sure this is as good as I can get it. I have to say while I was doing 'light flying' circuits, rolls, loops etc the clutch/drivetrain lasted for ages. It's only now that my flying has got to a point where I am throwing the helis around I'm having problems. Everything else on the heli works fine.

Loosen the engine to mount bolts and cinch up the frame to mount bolts.

Now slowly nip up the engine bolts while turning the start shaft backwards with your fingers. If you feel resistance on the start shaft then back off that bolt and switch to another. You will eventually get them all tight and the start shaft will spin perfectly free, thats when the engine is perfectly aligned.

On my old R50 I had to drill out the engine mounting holes in the frames to get the alignment just right. You just have to have some room for adjustment there.

Also, this unit:

makes a HUGE difference in the life of the pinion and also wear on the clutch and the bell. The Raptors have crap start shaft/clutch support allowing the bell to wobble and flex causing premature pinion and clutch wear. The 3rd bearing support stops all of this.

Great advice above. If you align the motor like BarracudaHockey explained and also dial indicate the clutch you shouldn't have another issue. I have one R50 going on 3 years old without a clutch problem.

I've never had to drill the frames, but if you can't get it perfect elongating the holes should help.

baddraptor,

my cluch bells came with the raptor kit ( not bought seperate ). The first one a raptor 30V2 kit and the second a Raptor titan kit

Only the gold is an upgrade bought after.

The silver ones came packed inside the box of NEW and sealed raptor kits.

I also agree on the engine alignment.

[edit]my mistake...only the first one came inside the original pack from a new raptor 30 V2 kit. The second was bought as a replacement as being a TT original titan's cluch bell

Keep it up...literally

Burning off the top of the bell is usually a sign that you are running the washer that came with the engine. This makes the clutch rub against the top of the bell at idle

Or forgot to place the washer that comes with the starter shaft underneath the clutchbell - so i've been told.
